I am curious if anyone has had issues with their tail drive belts.

I have been flying four months and have gone through two belts.

Does this mean they are to tight or too losse?

If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Michael

The tail belt should actually feel quite loose. When you look down into the frame at the front pulley, you should be able to almost press it together with the other side of the belt. It's just a gentle push, there should be very little spring in it.

My belt does wear a bit and you'll see a bit of rubber powder around the front and rear of the tailboom. I hear of people who have good luck with the belt and others who have went through several.

LOL @ Td :D

Belts are meant to grip not slip!!! I wouldn't use any lube on it  , also belts usually wear to the actual surface dimensions of the drive and driven gears so as Td said there will be deposits of fine powdery rubber residual left behind, however belt that are over tensioned will chop up under the strain and shread, refer page 82 of the mag #6 for further info-
Cheers Ralph.

LMAO

Using a lube will only attract dust and belt fragments and it will end up making your belt wear faster.

Does the belt squeek like a car fan belt? If so, use belt dressing J/K :p

I have heard of a lot of people oiling there belts around this time of year. The reason being it prevents static build up which reduces any chances of electronic glitches.

Wipe the belt down with a fabric softener sheet or spray it lightly with static guard spray. I know it sounds crazy, but it works. Lubing it will only cause problems.

OK I take your point!! But oil and rubber dont go together, rubber components that are oil soaked generally swell and eventually brake down, the majority of the belts in the automotive industry these days are a silicon rubber compisite that tends to be self lubricating, we as an industry we dont suffer from sqeaking belt anymore.
