Can anyone see what's the problem in this picture?

9 full gallons of PowerMaster 30%heli fuel have been through this engine.

Your pin that holds the sleeve in place is gone and the sleeve has rotated. Warranty time.
What do I win? :p

sf, you're correct about the discoloring, but td hit it right on the spot.

Your knowledge is a winner. ;) That's all!

The sleeve is stuck, any methods of removing it without mutilating any of the surfaces, or should I send it back for warranty reasons?
All the surfaces are in excellent condition.

I believe the exhaust port sould be rotated as td mentioned about the sleeve being rotated slightly. This engine has never been apart besides the changing of the glo-plugs. It has run beautiful since gallon one through gallon nine. It must have been installed improperly from the factory, if that's the case, a properly installed sleeve should give more power due to proper fuel and exhaust flow. You can see how the sleeve is blocking part of the port hole for the exhaust.

Here's the head-button with 1 1/2 gallons on the glo-plug. The last 20 tanks has been a difficult tuning with the outside temp being so inconsistent. You'll notice the glo-plug has a burnt white crusty coil, that's due to the cold air and running a little on the lean side, but not enough to kill the internals.

That also screws up your intake ports. Man, You probably had as little pwer as mine did before my tear down, but for completely different reasons. Everything else looks good. The discoloration is just from the fuel/oil burning. That's no cause for concern. Probably just oil deposits, nothing's getting hot in there.
It should be a whole different engine once that sleeve's in the right spot.

Yeah, the color wasn't of any concern. I do believe the blueish color was from a hot run once or twice. I always immediately land my heli to retune if running lean.

I definitely agree td, it was ballsy to begin with, now get this situation corrected and it should be 100% better.

Its a rainy weekend heli workshop for me. :D

The color has nothing to do with heat. I was told it's the metals in the sleeve, also that my engine is running more in the lines of a 30 sized engine. The ports are closed up about 25% with the sleeve out of alignment. Another note, you can clearly see the fuel wash in the exhaust port that the sleeve has never been removed.

Its a warranty issue, I'm sending it back.

heli-cuzz,

If you want to get the sleeve out, just put your engine in a toaster oven for a little while till it's hot enough so you can't pick it up with you bare hands. Case will expand more than the sleeve and it should come out fairly easy.

I don't believe there is supposed to be a pin in there. I think it's just an alignment mark. The exploded view and parts list for the engine doesn't show one.

Other than your sleeve being slightly rotated, the engine looks like it's in excellent shape.

Cbflys, mine has a little pin in there to align it. Heli-cuzz's for some reason is missing.

Yes cb, the engine is in great shape and it was never even close to its potential.
I tried the toaster trick, no go on the sleeve removal without mutilating{scratch} it. I took it to my friends shop (http://ebmods.com/) thinking he might be able to remove it, no go with his removal method. He told me to send it back for warranty services.
I should get a brand new engine. I'm gonna put it back together and fly it a few more tanks then send it back.

Great photo's Cuzz :)
Cylinder liners should'nt rotate like that :(
Definitely Warranty!!!

It must have came out of the factory like that. I'm sure its an automated system putting engines together. I've never heard of a sleeve rotating. The head screws were tight when I removed them.

If you want to to remove the sleeve jam a toothpick, ink pen tube, etc into the exhaust port, with the piston down. Once in place you should be able to rotate the crank which will push the piston up, moving the "soft object" into the sleeve and hopefully raise it enough so you can get it out.

I tried all the tricks too when I first got into nitro.

The oven trick only leads to burnt fingers...

Anyway, Brian, I sent you an email a few days ago; I broke my Hirobo

Waiting for a new main gear and stabilizer bar (blades hit the ground)

Thanks brad, I tried all methods. The only problem with the method you described, if you use to much force to get the sleeve to move, chances are you'll ruin the piston by putting a dent or flat spot on it. My friend says it should take no more than two zip ties to get it to slide up, after that he mentioned about damaging the piston.

I'm sending it back. Its cleaned-out and coated with an after-run oil, all reassembled now. :)

I'll check my e-mail
sorry to hear your mishap. I keep asking you to come fly with me at my field. I'll get you flying real quick{buddy cord}crash free

I would like to come fly with you!

I just that something is always not working. (Dead batteries, broken clutch, now the mishap)

I've flown it 4 times since you flew it lol.

Are you going to be around this Friday; my parts are supposed to arrive thursday?

I have a full gallon of fuel waiting.

That be the cord I need? My radio has the square end.

BTW it was not a crash :D . I was flying with the Rotopod in a field with high grass. Well anyways, don't land in high grass.

Call me if you still have my number, if not I'll pm or e-mail it to ya.

This is the cord you need with the double square ends. I have the 9chp with the micro plug-in as well. This would be the cord needed. Micro to Micro (http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBEK7&P=M)

Hey brad, its a heli, not a lawnmower. :p

G’day Cuzz
Yes I know you are moving into that mansion you showed us the other day!!! Nice LOL :)
Hmmm you obviously are going to be very busy for a while sorting all that out good luck with your new home, sounds like the plans are certainly in place for the RC hanger as well, you will enjoy setting that up, I've just finished my big shed @ home and I had a ball building and fitting that out. :)

Yo Ralph,

What's that HUGE dark door for - you got a "road train" in there ? - or is it an escape route for indoor aerobatics :D
( just curious ) very nice by the way ............................................

( are you really considering moving ? - saw that somewhere - )

Hello phatchantz

No No!!!! Helicuzz is moving not me, no way I put my heart and soul into this joint, we are here for the long haul :D BTW No road train---Thanks, we think its a great shed, yes I do fly the CX in there, if its a windy day, we are actually considering extending the right hand side to match the Left hand side, originally it was just the gable section and we have added the skillion section to the L/H side later on, you could call it a work in progress :D
