Once there's money involved, you panic a lot more. Your chences of dumb-thumbing it get a lot better. Also, the T-Rex is a fast and twitchy little machine. I hope you have the add-on with the MX400 on it. This will be very close to the T-Rex. On the stock MX400 on G3, the tail is too wishy-washy. You'll have to edit the model to make it more true-to-life. I think it's add-on 3 or 4, I don't remember.

It helps but it's not the real thing that's always different ;)

i understand that its going to be different, by its very nature it has to be.

thanks for the answers. i can't seem to put into words what i'm asking.

To put it simply, you're not afraid to try stuff on the sim because you always have the red button. But learning to control the sim models is worth it's weight in gold, literally. I try to fly the most twitchy model I can find because that teaches me to respond in real life. The main advantage when flying the real thing is that it gets small really quick on the screen, but the real one is easier to see.

i have g3, just downloaded the update a few days ago. i understand the whole crashing thing vs the game.

what im trying to get to is, for example, a driving game, isnt really all that close to really driving, so, how close is the sim to actually flying.

by the way, fighting games are nothing like the real thing..that stuff hurts man

LOL....Yeah, the fighting games are nothing like real life. I always last longer in the game than I would in a real fight for some reason. :p

The hardest thing to simulate is the inetia and the way the blades will react to certain types of wind and rotorwash. You're flying in a "perfect world" on the sim and of course, the real world has strange wind currents that the blades can stall out in and/or "fall through" it own rotorwash. This also depends on the blades you're using in real life. The weight of the machine will also vary in real life. It may not respond as cripsly to the collective or cyclic inputs.

I just met a guy last night who tried out my G3 on my laptop and I asked him how it compared to G2 (which he uses). He said it was better. He and I both agreed that it's still not COMPLETELY real. All-in-all, the sim is CLOSE and you'll definately improve your flying by using one. It does an alright job of preparing you for real life.

I second what tswan says. G3 I think just helps me progress in my flying faster than if I just fly the real thing. You can practice moves till you really get them down, it just will never be the real thing.

cool, thanks for that info, that helped alot.

my wife and i went to a hobby store because they carried g3, when we went in they had it hooked up to a puter. after crashing 4-5 times right off the bat, i told her this thing just would have paid for its self. now she still owes me my trex

I have tried FMS, G2, G3, and Reflex.

Of the four, the Reflex was the only one that actually resembled flying a real R/C helicopter.

Admittedly this is subjective and, to a very large extent, is based on who set up the simulator, the computer, the video card, etc. I have tried three different G3's, in three different hobby shops, and three different Reflex's (one of which was the one I purchased after all the test driving (flying).

Thank you and enough said.

I started on the G-2 and sold it. Bought the XTR reflex and a brand new computer with all the XTR system requirements. It's like watching a real rc heli video. You can't get any more real with the reflex until you go out to the field with a real rc heli.

I had to put in my 2 sense. :)

I'm happy with G3 despite not having any frame of real reference. The physics are what was hard to grasp, and to be honest due to the damn sim I want to say screw 50 size and buy a 90.

Either way, staying in a mindset where you don't screw yourself seems to be the hard part. I actively try not to crash on the sim, but when I do I hit throttle hold every time I crash just to develop the habit.
