Hey all, I have a Raptor 30 v2 and just ordered the OS 50 hyper to upgrade it. I saw the upgrade kit on Heli Proz and was wondering if that is the best way to go to make the switch? Is the longer boom and different gearing a must? What all takes place with the switch? The ad for the engine says it will bolt in the same size spot as a 30 so I was thinking I may not need the engine mount. I was hoping to get some pointers from some one who has been there done that. Any help would be most appreciated TIA:)

I did my upgrade but didn't buy the kit. It's not really necessary. The parts you need though are:
1. 85 Tooth Gear
2. 10 tooth pinion gear
3. raptor 50 autorotation gear
4. Raptor 50 boom
5. raptor 50 drive belt
6. 600mm blades
That's basically all that a conversion is. and yes you will need a 50 mount a 30 is too small for where the holes on the 50 engine line up. Thunder iger makes one for the OS 50 as well as for the TT50. I got all my stuff through heliproz.. I didn't buy the kit though because I wanted the Carbon Blades, instead of the woodies that come with the kit.

Why upgrade?
Keep the 30 and buy a 50 sized heli, then you have two helis. Thats what I did. I say the more the merrier. :D
My oshyper50 will fit right into my Calliber 30....Hmmmm a fifty in a thirty. I'll call it the Caliber30/50.

I say to buy the kit.
One draw back to getting the kit, though,
Is that by the time you are ready for a 50, you have probably outgrown wood blades.
The thing with the kit, is that it comes with the woodies, but you have to pay for them.
Why pay for something you don't use? Not even as a backup.
I highly recommend that you use those wood blades as kindling.
wood blades can tackle a head speed of up to about 1700 RPM's. I wouldn't go faster than that, as you are bound to bust a root, and you will see that blade flyin', and that heli fallin'
Hopefully, it doesnt fly at you, property,or another guy at the field.
TT's 30-50 conversion kit comes with the woodies.
I set up a 50 with a 50 Hyper, and Radix blades right out of the box. I used a pretty linear throttle and pitch curve.
The maiden test flight turned a head speed of 1960 in Normal, 2270 in IU2.
I dumbed it down later. I turn 1800/2000 now.
Had it been a wood blade, it (and the heli) would have been gone. Or should I say, wood have been gone.
either way, upgrade using the conversion kit. Of course, you will get the boom, belt, motor mount.... Don't forget the fan, the white tail drive pulley.
The gearing should be 8.5:1, done easily with the 85T gear, and a 10T pinion gear.
I don't recall what the R30 comes with for gearing.
Most importantly, find yourself some glass blades. You don't need the pricey performance blades such as Radix or V-Blades. Thise will cost you between $85-$100 dollars/ pair. The V2 blades and the Radix (which I use) do perform better, and you WILL notice a difference. Auto's couldnt be any easier.
The TT carbons will do fine. HeliProz offers the Mavrikk g4 blades that are ok, and pretty cheaply priced. MAH are also notable, reasonably priced.
