I have a used 450 V2 (gray frame) that is one of my first two helis (other is Venture 30). I've not flown either one yet. I'm figuring the V2 is going to be for getting more hovering practice and will not go beyond basic maneuvers. Therefore, I settled for a GY240 gyro and had been wondering about what servo to use with it when a hobby shop owner convinced me to buy a Futaba S3110 (I've got HS-56HBs for the rest of the servos). It does appear to be a very fast servo with (adequate?) torque (22 oz/in). The only reason I wonder about this is that, while I haven't done a whole lot of looking around, I don't think I've seen anyone else mention that they're using it.
What say, everyone? Anybody got experience with this servo on the tail of your 'Rex?

I could be corrected here but most people seem to use the S3110 on the swash from what I have read. :)

Yes and no.
I'm using it on my 450xl, only I haven't tried it out yet(still building). It is the only servo that I could find that came close to the hs-50(which is what most are using) as far as speed.
The one thing that I don't like about the 3110, is the way it mounts to the stock tail servo mounts. The tabs on the 3110 are a little smaller and shaped differently than the hs-50. The screw holes on the mounts don't line up very well with the tabs. It kinda goes on a little crooked. May have to do a little mod.
I think the 3110 will be as good if not better than the 50. You should be fine with it.

After posting last night, I did a little further investigation here and on RR. I found several that are using it, both on the swash and the tail (could have done that _before_ posting  ). A couple indicated that they enlongated the screw holes slightly, and one suggested using washers to help maintain the strength of the mount. I presume he's using mount bolts and not screws. If they're accessible, that's probably a very good idea. I haven't looked at the mounts yet. One guy thought the provided servo arms were too flexible and suggested using E-Flite servo arms (I think). However, several indicated that the control rod should be mounted no more than 7mm from the servo shaft and, therefore, arm flex should not be a problem. You want to make sure you set up the geometry right with the gy240 cuz you don't have end point adjustments. You will need to have the pushrod connected to the servo horn pretty close to the center, as indicated in the above post. the 3110 servo may need some minor mods to get it to mount properly, but its a really good servo and will provide you with remarkably good tail control. In my experience, I have been able to run 75% gain with the futab mirco servos on a GY240, where as with a HS-50 the gain had to be set to more like 25%- 30%. The tail performance with the futaba micros is way better than any other non-digital servo I have ever run. The only setup that is likely to be superior to that combo is going to be to go with a digital servo and a gyro with digital mode ( gy401, E-Flite G90, JR G500, CSM 720, etc.)
