Are there any pilots who deal with cold weather and such?
I live in N.E. Pa. Last winter I was out flying in + 10 degree weather. This winter I will be out there again like its still summer, just pants instead of shorts. I've hovered my heli in a snowstorm, probably shouldn't have, but it looked awesome. No problems either. I don't recommend flying in rain/snow storms. I don't fly any less in the winter. :)

By the time I get my T rex together, there will probably be snow on the ground and that is not going to stop me from going out. I'm looking at it from a positive perspective. More snow = more cushion for my crashes.

Are you in the Cleveland area? I'm about 40 minutes south of Akron.

I live in mid-Michigan next to the Saginaw Bay/Lake Huron and fly alot in the winter time. As long as it isnt snowing hard or really windy I do fly almost as much as I do in the summer, except I fly at home where I have 5 acres out of the 50 that I mow so I can fly and practice in the winter time or whenever. I just usually just have to lean the engine out more in the winter because of it being so cold.

I am sure it'll be a challenge for you all this winter....try Fairbanks, AK where it typically STAYS at -20's for about three months or so. Yeah, that would be NEGATIVE 20's. Its all indoor flying.....so I look forward to flying my new T-Rex as soon as its built.
Right now, its winterizing the house and vehicles....then finally I can start building the T-Rex 450XL....its been sitting in the box since it came in the mail.
Guess I will have the time later when its cold outside! :D

You would think to lean your engine in the cold weather. Its the opposite, you should be richening up when it gets colder and leaner in the hot weather. My needle settings have been slowly increasing{richer} the fuel mixture as the winter nears. Yesterday I was flying and the outside temp was 42 degrees, today its suppose to be around 70 degrees. I'll check back with how many clicks on the highspeed needle towards the lean side I have to go.

Once I get mine assembled and get comfortable at flying it ( I'm making a huge jump from my Sky Robo ) I would be all for getting together to fly.
It won't be any time soon though since right now my spare time is nonexistent.

You are right, I misstated what i was trying to say. Cold weather will make it leaner and sometimes have to richen the needle a bit. I didnt mean to say to lean the engine, but meant to say the engine will run leaner in colder temps. OOPS......

Lipos don't like to get really cold. in freezing temps they don't do so well, I have actually seen people insulate them so they stay warm. at the least you may want to use them fresh of the charger, or keep them in a pocket (by themself, with nothing metal!!!) to keep them warm before flights

Yeah, but you can use the nitro exhaust as a handwarmer.... I have and still do. :)

batteries make great handwarmers after you fly!
and speaking of staying warm, there is a really, really cool must have thing that I used to use in my days slope soaring in the Northwest in the winter. the transmitter mitten http://rcmitt.com/ is so nice to have for winter flying I can't express it enough!!

Helis look awesome when there's a blanket of snow on the ground, also there are no pesky insects to bother me and my eyes.

Hello Chris
I just love my CX :) But it took some time and extra money to sort it out :( I've got all the factory upgrades and more, and she fly's well now, I just wish they would sell this new one with all the hop-ups as a standard purchase so much easier, maybe in time they will :) but the new radio gear will be a tremendous improvement and the new canopy looks great:D
BTW Pestilent
I just finished repairing one of those XRB choppers for a friend and during tests it flew rather well they are a nice machine as well, but I'm a bit of a softy for the CX
