My wife says I suck so bad at flying my heli she's getting me an early birthday present, the real flight sim :) I'm hoping this will sharpen my skills a bit. How many hours, you that have sims, spend on in it a week?

Not enough, but as many as I can! ;)

just wondering, I've been flying a 90 size heli on the sim, since it's easier to see, but in all reality I'll probably buy a 30 size in real life. Should I continue with the 90 or would it be more beneficial to me to "tough it out" with the 30. By the way, my pc has very low end graphics.

One of the nice things about a sim is that it'll let you try different models with somewhat different flying characteristics. Try to avoid getting into the habit of flying away from the pilot's position, you'll have plenty of opportunity to do that in real life. Focus on learning the basics, e.g. hovering, most of which should be done 20-30 from your standing position. It's tempting to let go and just fly around in the sim, it's rather easy to do, however if you get into the habit and then try that in real life, you'll most certainly run into trouble quickly.

Sir Hellian, if you edit your heli you can change the graphic scale of the bird. As I had this same problem. I boosted from 100% to about 150%~200% and it is perfect for me. I was doing the same thing, i practice on the "watt" in G3.... its itty bitty on the screen.
Hope this helps.
Between the G3 and the FMS I spend waaaay too much time on the sim. Well according to my wife anyways.. lol. I try and fly the twitchiest heli's I can on the sim. It makes my TRex seem tame.
I noticed that the 90's fly very very docile when compared to the hyper little electric birds..

I can't wait for my sim to come in. It shipped out today, so hopefully by friday. I also went with G3.

Got the sim today. Man is that booger hard to keep in one spot. I was happy being able to get it off the ground without crashing. I'm starting with the impala with training gear.

Knifeedge's forum site now hosts downloadable full models and airfields.
Check out the very nice Raptor 90 posted on the swap pages.
You do NOT need any add-ons disks for this heli, but you do need the heli update.

I do two things to help out my learning on the sim.
First, I went into the Sim > Settings menu and changed the sim speed to 105% to make everything happen a little faster. Then I went to Weather and set the sim for 4mph winds with up to 100% gusts (8mph) from any direction.
It makes for a more challenging flight, but I seem to have to go back in and re-setting the weather. Seems the default state is no wind at all and man, that's just not too likely in RL.
And yeah.. after hovering for awhile I just get the urge to swoop the camera and flip around. Guess my discipline ain't quite what it should be. :D

Do you happen to have the link to knifeedges's forum? I've downloaded a raptor 30 somewhere, and a couple of t-rex models. I'm mainly flying the t-rex on the sim as it seems more challenging.
As far a real life progress... my rappy is still in the need of a good transmitter, and cyclic servos. I'm hoping to maiden it in july sometime.

The other neat thing about the sim is that it's convenient.
This morning before coming to work I spent a nice 15 minutes with 'my' Raptor .30 hovering around.
Then I turned it off and came to work.

Hellian,
Where did you get you T-Rex downloads? Would you be willing to share them?

I got the t-rex models off trextuning.com . I'm flying the "lite" model.

I got my sim from my local hobby shop. Very nice people there, too bad the only helis they carry right now are the blade cp @ cx. Online I have ordered from heliproz, and ricks. No problem with either of them :)

I'm not familiar with the sim you're using how does it compare with the one I just got at http://www.preflightsim.com/preflight001.htm ?
I have the Blade CP (sorry) so I got the BCP version (although it has all the other planes heli's and a blimp) and it seems to be as true to flight as when I crash mine. It is very helpful I've been way over stearing and I haven't been moving the controller very much. I seem to just bump the controller instead of pushing it around. It's also getting easier to control the rotation to keep the tail pointing my way at least for now but just wait I'll be doing aerobatics by the end of the summer.

I think any sim out there is a big help.
I "tested the waters" with FMS which seems to be the main free simulator on the web, but since I had no transmitter of my own, and rather than taking a chance that my transmitter would not be supported, I went with real flight, which includes a sim-transmitter interface.
Here's theLINK (http://www.tti-us.com/sim/index.htm) for the free FMS and a bunch of more info on it, just in case.. :D
Heres the http://www.realflight.com/ for RealFLight, They have a free demo.
