Yes folks, I was one of those unfortunate idiots that purchased a Hitec Optec 6 transmitter with the spectra module.

Before I purchased it, everything that I had read on the Optic 6 was positive. A month after
I had purchased it, I started reading about people having problems with them, nothing specific, just that they were junk. I hadn't notice anything with mine until today. With the radio on and the battery plugged in, I can tap the back of the spectra module and all of the servos start twitching(glitches). The module also gets warm to the touch after awhile.

My questions are:
1)Was this the problem everyone was having with it?
2)Are there any other negative issues with the radio?(besides being junk) :D
3)Can it be fixed?
4)Is it worth it?

I am considering buying the futaba 7 CHP PCM tx. I would like to have something "better" but unfortunately that's all that I can afford right now. There goes my "crappy rappy".

Any positive or negative feedback on this radio before I make the plunge?

The module on any radio will get warm. I have a 9chp and the module gets warm to the touch. The reflex instructions for my sim recommends taking the module out to give more battery time. The module requires electricity to work, therefore it will get a little warm. I don't know anything about your hitec radio. Is it a 2.4Ghz module?

You don't have a crappy rappy, from the sounds of it.... a crappy radio

Try to shim {maybe a matchbook cover would work} your module so there isn't any play when inserted. Good Luck, Helifino

I don't see a problem with buying a Futaba 7chp.

The module will get a little warm. It's nothing to be alarmed about. My JR does as well. As far as the Hitec radio, Sorry to hear that. There's a reason you don't see Hitec sponsored pilots out there at the 3-D competitions....and if you do, they're probably not taking top honors like JR, Futaba & Airtronics. Another sad case of your get what you pay for.

I for one, am not a fan of any synthesized modules....UNLESS a pilot sticks to one frequency and only may change if there's a conflict at a fun-fly, etc and switches back when they return to their own flying field. My reason for this being that it makes frequency control at clubs very difficult and can lead to people getting "shot down" by another radio. This recently happened at our local club to about a $3500 dollar IMAAC plane (running JR) from one of these little Hitec Optic 6's.

Lucky the guy that shot him down had homeowners insurance and it was covered. He had 2 different planes on different frequencies. FOLKS, DON'T DO THIS!!! Find a free channel at your club and stick with it.

Anyway....I always get worked up when I talk about Hitec.....What was the question again?

Oh yes.....I have witnessed the same problem with a couple of my friends who bought Optic 6's against my recommendations. Glitching like crazy. It can probably be fixed, but as far as if it's worth it? I can't give you an un-biased answer there. TRASH IT, but again, I'm pretty biased. You did plunk down at least $150 on it, have you gotten that much out of it?

Is it a 2.4Ghz module?
No, it's not. I might try the shim idea though.

I used the radio for a hornet that I used to have and didn't have any problems. Although the hornet met it's maker when the hitec hs-50 decided to come apart in flight for no reason.

As for getting my moneys worth out of the radio...NO,not even close. Your right td, you do get what you pay for. The only problem is that I can get the futaba 7chp for $150, that's less than what I paid for the hitec. Am I asking for more trouble? I don't want/need something with a lot of bells and whistles on it.

I'm through with hitec, that's for sure. Futaba or JR all the way!

Can I interest anyone in a radio? Only used by a little old lady......low miles.... :D

Before you trash it, get a single channel module, the spectra module has issues. You can send the radio into hitec they will fix the current issue with your module, but from everything I have read a single channel module fixes it.

I have read a single channel module fixes it

Found a forum on the hitec website. It appears I'm not alone with this same problem.
They seem to agree that a single channel module takes care of it, aside from taping the sides of the module, a temporary and risky fix in my opinion

The shopatron website has them for $27.59. A heck of alot cheaper than a new radio,if it takes care of the problem. Oh well, I guess it's worth a shot.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll let you know how it works out.

Against tdswan`s recomendations I bought an optic radio as well because of price .
Had some glitching problems in my trex and went to the spectrum radio and that cleared up the problem of glitching on the rex for good I hope .
But was my first electric build and setup is key here .
The reason I bring that up is I had a FM reciever in the rex and never was able to clean up the glitching .
When I built the raptor 50 I installed the reciever that came with the radio and have had no trouble with almost 4 gallons of fuel through it so far , and am happy with its performance to date .
It does not have all the bells and whistles as many other radios do but mine has worked as well as I could expect so far .
I do have to say that TDSwan`s advice to buy the best you can afford is sound advice ,thier si a good reason I call him YODA !!!!!! :D :D :D
