What is the different flight characteristics of a 2 vs 3 blade rotorhead?

Are there any other advantages/disadvantages between them (other that realistic looks of some scales)?

Hey lloydmsw, what size heli are we talking about? :)

50 size. My 1/7th scale Hughes 300 (Schweitzer 300).

When converting a small heli like a 450 there a little squirrely. On a 50 size there is really no difference except you are now flybarless. Meaning you won't realize what the flybar does until you actually remove it. Now comes the fun part. You need to set up the phasing, blades, etc. to be perfect. The phasing is very critical on a multibladed head. Some scale guys fly with stabilization (ie Vbar, Skookum, Helicommand) and some don't. The rule of thumb though is you should set the rig up to fly it without first, to get it's best performance.

And, a 3-blade system is inherently balanced - a 2-bladed system can never, truly, be balanced. So, lower vibration

You can also use shorter blades and a slower rotor RPM and still obtain the same lift.

Thanks for the tips and info guys. :)
