I am pretty new to thie heli scene and have not yet been able to afford a radio.(Mostly because I like to overdo things) But I acquired a raptor 50se all set up minus the radio and when I spin the head assembly/rotor every once in a while it will catch. Is this a bad thing? I hope nothing too terrible. Also the blade grips/paddles will twist without any resistance or servo action. Does the momentum of the blades spinning out keep that in line? I think the catch of the rotor assembly might be coming from the tail blades, but as I said, I don't know much about them yet. Lots of learning left to go. Thanks for any thoughts.

You might want to check the clutch assembly. This area should not be catching unless the engine is running. Just make sure everything moves smooth with no binding. It is hard to check servo bind untill you have the radio. Good Luck..

The catching may be the tail belt, too. Check the tension of it and adjust if it's loose. It should move about 5mm in when you push on it and should feel quite springy.

Where do you push on it? Right before it enters the tail boom? I am not sure what five milimeters is because I am a carpenter so I use inches and feet, but I checked it out and it is pretty loose with no immediate springyness.for maybe threee eighths of an inch.

That's the right spot. Between the main pulley and where it goes into the tube. There's your problem, then. The belt is slapping against itself in the tube. You should have a little less than 1/4" of spring to it. About 6 or 7/32" :D

the flybar can tilt and the blade grips will pivot with it, and yes this movement should be free

Thanks, sounds like everything is ok. Just some adjustment to the tail belt. I appreciate all the advice.
