Hi guys. I am looking at buying a new heli soon. I am just going through the options and have been thinking i might have a go at approach engineering Cobra as a winter project.
They recomend a 500 size Century or a logo 10. The Century Swift 16 appeals as its a good price and i can probably order it from closer to home with the poor exchange rate. My question is, do you need special servos for a 500 size or will they be happy on standard servos? I also have a spectrum Ar6100 rx that i have never used. Would this be wise to use or to spend another couple hundred on the 7100. Next thing is the motor, giving the heli would be carrying the weight of a body on it what would be a recomended setup?
Thanks for your answers guys :)

i flew Dan's 500 sized trex and he was using S9650's all around on his bird. they worked really well, but the cost is kinda high. there's gotta be a servo that still works great, but isn't going to break the bank when you buy 4 of them...

Thanks for the info. I cant amagine it will be doing 3d while I own it. I would just be after maybe something more than the basic 3001 3003 type servos.

The Hitec HS-5245 and HS-5245MG are good choices for a 500 size heli.

thats more good info. I am hoping the us dollar keeps on the path its going. its almost at a point where buying from the states is an option again. When i calculate the price of those 5245mg they are about as much as i want to spend on servos. I cant find listings for the 5245 just the 5245m I take it the m spec the ones to go with anyway?

Hitec HS65MG's have been excellent in my T-Rex.

Is that aimed at the servos or heli?
I would prefer a trex 500 but apparantly the approach heli bodys do not support the tail boom mods. Hobby shops here are fairly pis$ poor at keeping on hand parts and almost just as bad at ordering them in so if i can get hold of century parts just as easy over the net thats ok. I plan on building the body first then dealing with the mechanics afterwards or durring the build.

The servos are fine. Parts support from Century is good; however, you might check with people flying the Swift before you jump in. A couple of knowledgable friends of mine weren't too happy with that particular heli in terms of its flight performance. I mean they had trouble getting a steady hover. This was a ready-to-fly kit that came with its own radio and that may have been part of the problem. I would just check it out thoroughly first and be sure of what your options are for heli choices. You'll put a lot of work into putting a scale heli in the air and you won't want the heli choice to frustrate the effort.

Like if you chose a scale body that required a Trex or Raptor for a heli then we wouldn't even be talking about it!

Thanks for the warning ots. I will keep it in mind. I may have to talk to doctor tim on the mods that need to be done to a trex 500 to make it fit

On the contrary, the Swift is a very stable helicopter and with installing good servos and NOT getting the RTF servos you will be miles ahead at a lesser cost. You can vist HeliFreak.com or http://www.swift-tuning.com/index.php to read more on the Century Swift.
My 2 cents,
