Here they are, some exclusive shots of the first Jason Krause desisigned Align T-Rex 450 Pro. That's not the official name just quite yet, but for now we'll go with it. Here are some of the design features:
Single side frames
Strong and simple layout
Improved servo and linkage layout
Completely new rotor head with increased precision
Torque tube tail
Large and powerful new tail design with counter weighted blade grips and reduced tail RPM
One piece carbon/plastic landing gear and boom supports
New Align out runner motor (not pictured)
New Align metal geared servos
This is not a final production kit, so things my change before it actually goes into production.
Looks like the 450 standard is being reset by the company that started it all. We'll keep you posted as more details come our way.
Look for the most up-to-date photos and information in the April issue of RC Heli magazine.

out of curiosity, is there any actual difference between counter and non counterbalanced tail grips? i know of the structural difference, that is plain to the eye. but, is there any actual benefit to them? other than the "it feels better" response. has anyone actually done a test with quantifiable results? actual measurements compared directly to the same tail mechanism without the counterweights. on paper it may seem like it should influence tail control, but, once all the "slop" no matter how small is factored in, does it still make a significant difference is performance?
i personally would like to see in articles quantified measurements as to why this feature works better as opposed to other features. like main blades, how much thrust is produced for a given pitch setting and r.p.m. compared to a competitors blade, flex, etc. would be interesting to actually see numbers attached to reviews rather than it "feels like this" or "looks like that".....

thanks ralph!
i'd buy that they work well on full scale birds, as they'd be significantly larger, as well as have a larger moment compared to the axis of rotation.
however, on an r/c, i just have a hard time picturing it having that much difference being so close to the axis of rotation and such a small amount of weight....
I'm not saying it's not a good idea, but, look at full scale airplanes. they have variable pitch props to help them get off the ground, but in a model, they aren't necessary to fly. people just use them to play with to do what those airplanes pilots like to call "hovering" :D

is it just me, or does the tall stance landing gear just look out of place. My Evo has the same stance..come on , slam it!!!!
Didn't Pontiac do an ad..Wider is better??

I don't care for the new look, the torque tube is cool, but not needed, especially if you crash often ($$), the frame reminds me of the carbon upgrade for the blade 400, and the gyro is back on top  , the canopy looks like its from the 500 'Rex, it just seems like a bigger version of the TREX 250...............just my opinion. I also wonder if it will perform better than the SEV2.

I'm gonna cry now. . . I love watching 3D, But talk about intimidating skill levels! I've met Jason, Alan, and the Local heli stars here in San Diego, CA. They're open for questions and a great bunch of men. Luckily, flying weather here in SOCAL is almost an everyday thing. I must resist the new pro for a big machine. Align has had a few k from my bank account! At least I know much has one to R&D!

They need to design a 600e pro.
They need to design a 600e pro.
There's always the T-Rex 600 ESP (Electric Super Pro). ;)

Maybe just the canopy shape. I really like the trex 500 style and would like to see that move to the 600.
