JR is coming out soon with the Vibe 90 SG. This has some improvements over the Vibe 90. One of the improvements has to do with fixing a problem with the tail on the Vibe 90. Apparently the Vibe 90 tail has some inherent weakness. I don't know what it is nor whether there is a fix for it (other than buying the new SG!).

I have flown my Vibe 90 very little. It's basically just been broken in and so far is just a real nice (big) heli.

Does anyone know what the problem is supposed to be with the Vibe 90 tail and if there is a 'fix' for it?

I havn't heard of any weakness with the SG edition. I did look at it close up. Very nice machine.
He flew at the heli-jamboree 08 in Rochester. He had a TR strike during one of his routines and broke both tail blades in half.
He flew it another 2 minutes and it held like it had been since the start.
He autoed down then realized he had broken both TR blades in half.
My wife snapped this pic a split second after the strike. Look closely and you'll notice the dirt flying. That's a thick lawn up in kcgraves land so it hit with some force to get down to the dirt.
I was amazed at how well it flew with 50mm TR blades. LoL

Sorry H-cuzz, I guess I wasn't clear. I don't have the SG I have a Vibe 90, regular. I have heard of tail problems with it - the regular Vibe 90 - and was wondering if anyone knew what the problem is and what the fix is, if any. The SG version is not supposed to have the same problem.

That's my bad. I realized what you were asking after I had posted.

Hi Ots here I am again... :D

I had a look around, there isnt much about the specific problem but I did find this on the Freaks

Maybe this will help, there's a photo there of an upgraded TR assembly.

And a Kasama link

Thanks - not much info around. Oh well, flew it today and it seems fine. Just wanted to address it before I get a surprise!

So, it turns out that Horizon Hobby put out a product bulletin on this. It seems that when assembling the tail housing and vertical fin, if the proper sequence of bolt tightening isn't followed, it's possible to think that the housing is tight on the boom and it's not. This happens because the housing bolt could bottom out on one of the fin bolts before being tight itself. If this happens then the housing can loosen in flight and all sorts of nasty things can happen!

The proper sequence is to tighten the housing bolt first and then the fin bolt. None of this is in the manual. And, for these two bolts to interfere with each other I think you would have to do something wrong like forget to use the washer on the fin bolt or use too long of a bolt on the fin or the housing. I took mine apart and it was OK, but they do share a common threaded hole.

Anyway, problem solved!

So if people actually follow the instruction manual step by step they'll be alright...Right?.. :)

No. Unfortunately Horizon Hobby posted the bulletin as the manual doesn't address this as a posibility. I must say, however, that putting the vertical fin on before installing the housing to the boom would not be the way most people would do it.

Hi Ots, further to this conversation.

I thought I should make you aware of this thread on arcHeli-BK117 (http://www.archeli.com/showthread.php?t=121429) one of the local guys had a really bad accident with his Vibe 90, probably written the whole heli- off because of TR failure :(

Ouch! It sounds like the problem he had was of a different sort than the Horizon Hobby bulletin was addressing, but still a tail problem.

Blax that is a great website! I am looking for a Vibe 90. I would like to try one out. I have an add out to trade my N9 for a Vibe airframe for airframe. Hoping somebody bites. I really like the looks of the vibe and the couple I have seen fly just have great presence in the air. NOt sure if it will fly as good as the N9 but one things for sure I will never fly it to the point of finding out.

Gmoney

I fiugre what I save in NOT having to replace the HYPER upgrades will be worth trying the JR product line.

The new SG model will be out in a month or so - I suspect that will be the one to get.

You hear price point on the new SG yet? I am hoping to pick up a good used 90 when the new one hits.Unless of course horzion prices them like the other top end 90's.

Ots, that's one awesome machine!
Ofcourse Scott Gray makes it that much better.
Here he is dancing the SG protoype while Kyle Stacy spots at the 2008 NE heli jamboree. What he's spotting for.... I don't know..... Looks like he spotted Scott dancing{called fish out of water}{tail dancincing tic-tocs} that fresh maneuver across the field. :D
