So I found a 30-50 conversion kit for the Sceadu Evo. 70 bucks.

http://www.ronlund.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=heli&Product_Code=412160

At HeliHobby, the Evo 50 is 430 bucks while the Evo 30 is 300.

From what I understand, the 30 and 50 are identical with the exception of the parts in the conversion kit.

The way I see it, I can get a Evo 50 for 370 bucks instead of 430. That seems too easy. Is there any other differences or did I really just find a way to save 60 bucks?

I have never converted a 30 to 50 but I just opened your link and those are just the engine parts. You will still need the boom, belt, 600mm blades, driven tail and probably other small stuff that will take you over the $430 range. BTW that muffler is junk!. Just get the 50 and don't deal with tha hassel. There are some upgrade parts that are a must for the Evo as well which you'll need no matter if you get the 50 or 30.

Be very careful the comments you make about companies that advertise in the magazine. It is frowned upon and you may get a visit from MR. :(

Hmm I thought the boom and everything were the same.

What are the needed upgrades?

I'm already planning to put a CY MusclePipe on it. Even if it was decent its still pretty ugly in my opinion.

LOl..MR, if your referring to the owner of some other board...thats funny.

I think the key to the success of RCHeli Mag is its honesty. If a product is sub par I am not affraid to say it as ulitmatly its the reader who's important...... ;)

I flew a Evo for about 2 years no doubt its a great flying heli but like I said there are some minor things that need addressing.

1. Get a good set of carbon tail blades as the stock flex.
2. Get a metal radious block as the stock cracks
3. Get the delrin gear set as the noise on the stock gears are horrable. (Optional)

Hands down best flying 50 for 3D. I don't fly the Evo anymore for personal reasons which are not important to the quality of the ship.

And I still say the stock muffler is junk :D

Nice, none of that is real expensive, I'll have to take you up on the advise.

Absolutely, Fasrc!!!!

IMO,
If something you advertise is a piece of crap, be honest about it or don't advertise it. Sure, money for advertisement is great and keeps the zine being published, but if a product is advertised and you say its good but in all reality its crap, then you come to find people stop buying the zine.

And.... A bb forum is to post opinions, whether they are positive or negative, feedback on such products is key to success.

BTW, I love rchelimag, I've read a lot of great articles and trust the authors views on such products. RCHeliMag has convinced me to buy the Caliber50 and TJ RevMax thus far and I've been buying every issue for about 6 months now.

Honesty is best policy!

Back on Topic, Buy the 50size, forget the conversion, keep the 30 for casual flying. :) There's not much difference in dimensions of the 30 to 50, it's the motor that makes the big difference.

I was so sure I found a way around spending another sixty bucks.

Also, look at it this way, you buy the 50 and keep the 30. Now you have two helis. :D

Looking at the Sceadu Evolution manual its really non-specific to airframes. The same manual is for both the 30 and 50.

Page 28, Engine assembly, lists both the Clutch Bell and the Flywheel, as well as the different engine mount in the breakdown in the picture and that is it.

Well the muffler, but we already established that its ugly as well as terrible. Blades don't come with any of the new Evo kits.

The rest of the book lists no differences. Fasrc, you sure its not the older Sceadus?

I'm seriously thinking I can save some bucks here and strike a blow for all the economical underacheivers of the RC helicopter hobby :D

If you can save money, that's great. Let us know what the big decision will be.

To be honest I think I may just try it and see, I'm fairly sure it'd work. If it does, than anyone else who wants a Evo 50 can do it like I did and save some clams.

Hrrm, Everytime I try to cheat the system like this I end up spending more in the long run, you may want to pull up the actual parts lists from the two helis and compute up the price of all the parts you would need :)

Hrrm, Heliproz has "New Sceadu 50 EVO, FREE UPS No Blades, PN 0403930" for 389.99

And actually for $200 more you can also get a os .50 sxh hyper engine and 600mm mavrikk blades as a combo from them and still have free ups shipping.

I am not 100% sure if the boom is different on the evo's but on the raptor it's diffently different sizes between the 2. I know for sure that you will not get the push pull setup on the 30 and the gearing is different. I am not sure if the gear ratio on the 30 tail is the same or different on the 50. Like I said, get the 50 to avoid any surprises. :)

Yea, I guess I'll stick with the 50. Hopefully I can afford it real soon.
