Not many posts in the gasser section this year....I'll chime in.
Here's a pic of my gasser......well at least the motor........well the skids and half the motor.
A useful tip to all....I hadn't even touched the carb on it for almost 3 years aside from flipping the choke lever. Once you get a gasser running well, it's set for life......usually. What I didn't do was take the carb apart and clean the internal screens out and such and it almost cost me big time. My in-line filter wasn't catching everything and the carb was clogged with some debris which effectively leaned it out ever so gradually. I thought it sounded differently this year and I found out why after the engine finally over-heated and siezed. It happened to be close to the ground so no damage to the heli aside from a top-end rebuild. A piston, ring and a head will have it back in the air in no time.
Even glow machines can get a clogged carb. It's a good idea to check them out if you notice something different.

Crikey's Troy, when I first saw this thread title, I thought she'd gone up in smoke... :(

Ya well these little two strokes operate at very high RPM's and it doesn't take much to lock them up, Oh well you'll soon have her back in the air, glad you didn't need an extinguisher........ :D

I had a similar thing happen with an Stihl 017 mini chainsaw, I was 1/2 way through a log, and she started to miss fire, I thought bugger it, I'm nearly through, just kept on going and a new cylinder assembly piston and rings and she was going again, It was a sinking hot day, yes I do know better...

That's good info to know. Thanks for posting it. I have been looking at gassers lately and all info is good info.

LOL....The basket is where the rest of the parts are for re-assembly. My wife confescated my nice ceramic bowl back to the kitchen so I'm left with the basket for parts. :(

Thanks guys for the concern. It could have been much worse. Only $55 in parts is a welcome price instead of hundreds it could have been. I've now made orders with 3 different places tonight for heli parts....we'll see who's first! Horizon, HeliProz, and Ready Heli.

Sorry to hear that Troy. :(

Try using the $5.00 a gallon gas instead of the $4.89 stuff.

Do you fly off asphalt, concrete or grass? I will be pulling the carb on the big P tonight.

Mostly grass. There's the occasional asphalt take-off. somewhere somehow debris got into my fuel. It's the screen opposite the bulb side of the carb if I'm remembering right.

TD thanks, I have been reading alot lately where guys say not to fly of parking lots. But since you seem to know its bad fuel then your good. Dont forget to either buy a new gas can or at least clean out your fuel can and the filters on the can. My can is four years old and has had to many trips out to the dry lake bed. I was having a problem a couple years back with my plane gas and I just happend to look at the bottom of the can when getting some fresh fuel.. Found my problem.. DOOOOh, dirt and lots of it..

Who makes a gasser, other than the Predator? Thats the only one I've heard of in the magazine. I think thats what I would step up to after my electric. My dad had a nitro plane, and the thing was always an oily mess. And that was on something that was completely covered. I don't think I'd ever want to clean off a nitro heli. But I could definately go for a gasser once my skills are up for it. I'm sure the Predator can't be the only one. But maybe its the best one?

Century, Minature Aircraft, Maxium,Bergen and Quick World. There are some high end low number companies out there and some real good conversions for the Trex 600-700 and Raptor 60-90 using the new 20EI. I think it is rightnow MA with there Spectra-G is the top of the heap for 3D. I have been impressed with some recent vids of the Bergen ane the new kid on the block Maxium..For now I'll stick with the Preddy and keep saving my pennies for the MA..
