View Full Version : Axe CP LiPo Recall
Not sure if all are aware of this. I noticed it at my local hobby store yesterday.

Figures I just made the upgrade to LiPo two days before the recall and now have to stop flying with the LiPo batteries and wait for the recall process to supply with replacements.

I was in my LHS last week when they went to the floor stock and picked the boxes off of the floor - and they were in a hurry to do so! Lol!

Did you do anything bad recently cuz this sounds like karma being a b**ch... :D. Just kidding. Did they say what the problem was with the batteries?
Hmmmm, nope J-Heli can't think of any Karma issues that might explain it. ;)
I couldn't find out what the issue was, other than possible fire. If one reads the info on the recall site closely, it sort of sounds like maybe too many folks ran their batteries down too far which with LiPo's can be a problem.
Not sure what their doing to "fix" the problem, maybe some sort of internal circuitry to keep the battery from shorting internally when it's accidentally discharged too far.
I had just installed a little voltage sensor with a diode on it, read about it on the board here somewhere. It turns from blue to green when it's time to land. I checked it with a volt meter and the battery stays well above the 3 Volts per cell minimum it this is followed. But alas, I had to disconnect it since it doesnt work right with non-LiPo batteries.

Got my "upgraded" batteries back from the recall today. They changed out the connector and provided a voltage control device to be installed which will "slowly" reduce the throttle when the voltage gets low.
I haven't used them yet since I have to change out the connector on my charger and the voltage monitor diode I already have before I can use them.
I sure hope the "slow" reduction in the throttle won't cause a "sudden" loss of lift and a crash.

You'll notice it, but it won't be bad, you just have to make sure when you notice it, to bring her down before it does get bad.
