Being as there are no clubs nearby to learn from more experienced pilots,I would have to learn to fly nitro on my own. I'm having enough trouble with the trex in setting it up.
So,being realistic and not too greedy, I would be happy with a Raptor 30. I could always upgrade to a 50 later. A 9303 tx and digital servos all the way around. A 401 gyro to finish it off.

If your flying your Trex you shouldnt have much trouble flying a raptor. Setting it up by yourslef might be alittle tough. I did not have anyone to tell me if i was right or wrong til the first day i brought it to the field and the only thing i needed changed was servo direction, flipped the servo reverse switch and it was hovering.
btw i have a raptor 50 with 9303 and 401 great package!

I agree but why not a Futaba radio with the futaba gy series avcs gyro. Futaba all the way around, or JR all the way around. I don't like to mix electronics. :)
I have a Caliber30 with Futaba servos and a 9254+gy401, a Caliber50 with all digital Futaba servos along with a gy401, and a Trex450xl with a 3550 motor and 35 amp esc Hitec all around with a gy240.
This is all powered through my Futaba Super 9chp radio.

There's no reason why you can't mix electronics. That's why they make them all compatible with each other. For instance, I am preferential to JR radios, but I use almost exclusively Futaba servos and use both a JR and Futaba gyro on different birds. I haven't had good luck with JR servos, not to say they're bad. Lots of people use them and never have one fail. I've had one fail, so it's just a little quirk I have. As you all know, Pilots are a superstitious bunch. I go so far as to play a specific "good luck" song on my way to the field. ;)

I know you can mix electronics, I do it with my planes, my helis on the other hand, everything is the same. I don't like to mix servos. I'm not saying JR is bad, they're top of the line. I think its preference or what somebody has stumbled across on what brand radio they buy. I came across a sweet deal for my Futaba Super9chp heli radio. It could have been a JR or airtronics and the same goes for my helis, I have 2 Calibers, a 30 and 50 They could have been a Century, venture, or even a Crappy Rappy. j/k rappy owners, I fly them frequently and do like them a lot. :)

I think everyone has made good points. But for my own experience to throw in it, I have come in and out of the hobby since I was a child. I have always bought Futaba and have never regreted the decision. I have been continually tempted and told to buy better equipment and just can not see buying something different. Futaba has never let me down and since I have grown up with them, the progression of equiment has always made sense and I have never had to try hard to program a radio (started with them before programable radios). Just goes to show another reason to listen to everyone and make your own decision, because everyone will always have their own opinion and reasons for why they are right, I mean why they have good advice...
