I am curious on what is the best servo (speed) to purchase and is fairly inexpensive?

I have a JRS241(standard .23/60sec) servo. I took it to the hobby store today because I thought that my gyro needed adjusted due to alot of tail movement. He said it is not the gyro it is the speed of the servo (to slow for the gyro).

Also, he wants me to solder on my negative wire on the speed control and hook to the frame due to an issue with static build up in the tail from the rubber belt. Recommend it or not? Is there another way and is this a big issue (static electricity)?

Thanks for all of your help with all of the questions I have been asking.

I run hs-55's in my Trex and a hs-50 through a GY-240 on the tail. I don't have any problems with them. My tail is rock solid. These servos price at my local hobby shop is 10 to 12 dollars each.

I run 55's also, but just tonight I switched out the 50 for a 3110 futaba. I've had nothing but problems with the 50 since I got it and I haven't even flown yet. It quit working while I was trying to set up and center everything. Better now than in the air I guess.

Thanks for the reply's.

I purchased the Hi-Tec 50 tonight and the tail chasing is much better.

Just getting started in this hobby and I am confussed about the soft start. I see that my speed control has it but I am not sure how to set it up.

Do I adjust the throttle curve to start slow?

Thanks

No you don't. Soft start is a feature to wind the engine up slowly so it doesn't jerk into a spin possibly breaking a tooth on the main gear. Make sure your throttle curve starts at 0%.You need to turn on your transmitter and put the throttle/pitch stick to the full position before powering up your Trex{Power up the heli by plugging your li-po pack to the esc}This will enable your esc into set-up mode. As it goes through the menu you must listen for the tones from the esc and place the throttle stick in its given position according to the esc instructions manual. Just in case you're wondering, the motor will not spin-up when the stick is at full position. Make sure you have your reverse/normal for the throttle set correctly.

Great, I will give this a go and tell you the results.

Someone originally set up my speed control on govenor mode. Do I just change the throttle curve off of the straight line of do I have to take it off in my radio?

Thanks for your help!

I believe you will do this through your radio. The governor mode for the align says,' Throttle curve should be set at or between 85-100%. You shouldn't be running the governor in normal flite mode.
If you have any doubts, don't try to fly until you're 100% positive that all is ok.

Goodluck

The HS50 (.09/sec speed) has fallen apart on me. The housing (top to bottom) came undone.

I was advised to get the Futaba 3110 (.10/sec speed). One one hundreth of a second differecne. I do not think I will see that much of a difference.

Any other recommendations?

Thank

Use a tight zip tie around the hs 50 to hold it together, mine has been free of exploding for quite a while now and I can remove and replace the zip tie easily by just sliding it off.

Isn't there a good and fast servo out there that I do not have to give TLC?

The airtronics one in my sig is a nice fast servo, but I am reluctant to put it back in the rex after it was sent back from airtronics, my hs50 is working just fine... Maybe it's the whole burned out the motor and two fets thing after limiting the servo so it wouldn't bind up and only flying with it 3 times :/

Oh well, the hs50 seems to be working fine and it's about 1/2 the weight (ok maybe not that light!) :)

Chris

P.S. if you look at the tail servo in this pic you can see what I ment by the zip tie around the servo http://home.earthlink.net/~parrot23/images/t-rex/REX3.JPG

Chris,

You own all of the heli's that you have listed?

If so, what do you think of the Walkeras. I have a friend that would like to buy one but we do not know anyone that owns one.

Thoughts??

Thanks

Well walkera makes decent helicopter airframes, but the electronics are their main downfall. For a helicopter that is comparable with pretty much any other rtf helicopter(which if you look at the transmitters included with many of the rtf helis they are walkera) the electronics will drive you crazy. I have flown both the 36 and the 22a with my optic and good electronics and both fly quite well, I would almost equate them to a tamiya of RC helicopters.

As for parts support, many designs are carbon copy of another companys bird, the 36 for example has a t-rex tail and a shogun head and the 22's are basically ms composit hornet clones.
