I already have mastered hovering in almost all of the regular hovering orientations (not inverted ;) ) and forward flight, but I'd like a good sim so that I can practice inverted hovering and basic aerobatic maneuvers without breaking the bank, or my heli too often :p . I've heard of a couple like the Phoenix and Real Flight sims, but was wondering what other sims were out there, and which ones were especially good. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Here is a great little FREE sim for the T-Rex. I have an old RealFlight G2 and G3, and I think this T-Rex flies closer to my real one than either of those. It is limited, (no sound as of yet) but there are parameters you can adjust. There is discussion in the thread about different controllers that have been used, and on the next to last page, (as of this time), there is an add on for scenery.

I copied a canopy to "paint" and and colored the tail with bright green for orientation help.

BTW, this sim runs fine on my old 1.4 Ghz computer and my new one.

I have the Reflex XTR sim. great graphics and you have the ability to create your own flying field and create a copy of your heli to fly on the sim. Greatest thing about reflex is that you do not have to pay additional money for "expansion packages"

Greatest thing about reflex is

Its a professional RC helicopter simulator and the best sim on the market to reproduce reality of flying the real thing
XTR=neXt To Reality.

Can you download or buy a T-Rex 450 se v2 for the Reflex XTR sim?

Click on the below link to download a few version of T-Rex that were constructed by users for the Reflex XTR sim.

.....or construct your very own exact copy of your 450SE. The sim also comes with a program (RMK-Reflex Model C (K)ontruction) that lets you design your own heli from pictures

Hi Helifreak:

I have both the Great Plains G4 and the Reflex XTR. They are both very nice and you can't go wrong with either. -Migs

For the Reflex:
Really nice way to change parameters of your model
Uses a dongle USB to which you connect your TX. This part is a bit delicate in my opinion, and could easily be broken if the cord gets pulled laterally. (I added a USB extender cable between the dongle and the computer to prevent this)
Wicked realistic scenes
Made in Europe, so some additional resources are in German or French.
Cant find printable pdf manual
Come on one CD (l felt it might not have enough info, but it does)
My kids like the Reflex a wee bit more because you seem "closer" to the model visually

For the G4:
Huge manual (printable) Ask me for pdf
Has a nice controller, just like the real thing
Has a button to reset after a crash
Seem have additional models more readily (in english) availiable.
Models are easy to install (remember to get those that end in "EA", meaning Entire Aircraft)
The G4 comes with more models
Has photo realistic scenes and graphics animated scenes.
Trainer is more advanced here with pro's guiding you through a sequence. Reflex trainer works nicely but is more basic.
Has smoke stremers and smoke trailers for models.
Landing tracks in the sky to teach you to land and take off (airplanes)
Seems to have more infrastructure to develop models.
Comes on 4 CD's (comforting)
A T-Rex 450 Se V2 on screen seems farther away, because its a small helli.
Importing models has a menu function whereas on Reflex one must carfully install files into selected folders on one's drive.

Ask me more questions! -Migs

ive used

aerofly pro deluxe - terrible for helis - great for planes
realflight - solid sim... can feel a bit like a video game in the training modes
reflex - solid - only lacking in the crash graphics and the sounds
phoenix - solid sim - can at times feel too easy to fly

Cool. I ended up going with Reflex and am very satisfied, although the crash graphics are pretty bad like you said. Thanks.

apparently, you did not set up your models (in edit models) to fly what you have. Including wind ,sun, etc. You would definitely have had a different opinion.

Its not about the crash graphics. Its about how the real feel is and the Reflex sim has it.

Great choice J :)
