View Full Version : Sceadu vs Raptor, I can't decide...

So after posting a thread in the beginner forums about heli choices, it really only took me another two weeks to really decide what I want. I've been on RealFlight for two weeks or so as well, I'm definitely glad I invested in it. I'm hooked on the hobby and don't even have a heli yet.
Basically it's down to a Raptor 50 Titan or the Hirobo Sceadu Evo 50. I'm leaning more toward the Sceadu, but also considered even the Gohbee Stinger 50 after the decent review in issue 6 of RC Heli. I was planning to go electric but after seeing prices for stuff with decent capabilities and having extra batteries, nitros made much more sense.
From what I've been reading, it really seems the Sceadu is the most bang for the buck. This is what I'm thinking -
Sceadu 50 (SWM definitely)
OS 50 SX Hyper
Muscle Pipe II/OS50
JR XP7202 Synthesized Tx (similar price to the Fut 7CHP which I was looking at, but it isn't synthesized)
4x JR DS821 Servos (comes with Tx)
JR R790 Reciever (also with Tx)
JRG500T HH Gryo
JR 810G Tail Servo (comes with gyro)
All of that is looking like its going to run me around 1000 - 1200 without necessary field equipment. Of course the kit doesn't come with blades either, so I'll need some size and type suggestions for that as well.
Thoughts?

Everything looks good in your setup, the muscle pipe really isn't necessary until you get into the realms of 3D if you're looking to shave a little cost off.
The G500T is a great gyro. Very underrated, but a great gyro. The 810G will get you quite a ways along before you have to upgrade. When you do, the DS8700G servo (also combo's with thaqt gyro) will be a nice step up. I just installed this on my gasser and I am impressed so far. I had the G500t with the 810G to start out with on my Raptor. It's still an adequate combo.

Nice, thanks. I'm 99% sure this is what I'm going to get. I wanted Futaba electronics but after checking out the 7202 I figured might as well go all JR. Two big reasons for the Muscle Pipe - I'm getting pretty confident on the sim so will probably start trying out some crazy stuff after a few flights depending on how it goes. I don't want to be too eager to crash but if I never want to crash I'll never get anywhere. The other reason is strictly cosmetic. I don't like the looks of the stock muffler or alot of tuned pipes. I definitely appreciate the gyro input.
Any suggestions for a good carbon fibre blade set that is still decently cheap?

I run Thunder Tiger blades on my Raptor. I like 'em. I'm no pro 3D guy (yet), but I've seen a few 3D-ers using them. Maverikk makes nice blades that are reasonable. They don't get huge reviews, but they will be more than adequate through the learning curve.
Don't get too much of a false sense of security from the sim. When there's dollar values involved, things are much different. You WILL panic much easier when it's the real thing and run the risk of dumb-thumbing it right off the bat. Just take the learning slow and don't fly outside yourself right away. A sim is good muscle-memory and orientation training, but can never prepare you for the real thing.
The 7202 is a VERY nice radio. I started with the 6102, which is essentially the same radio only 6 channel. The JR programming is SECOND TO NONE! Easiest radio out there to program (any JR). Very easy to understand and no small abbreviations that will confuse you at first. Go with the JR. You'll never regret it.
Good luck!

I'll trust you on the JR for sure.
Thanks again for the input. I'm pretty solid on this setup, now I just need to start piecing it together.
I'm at work right now printing the rediculously massive sized manual for the Sceadu. This heli stuff is seriously addicting

I have Fuataba 9chp and have no regrets. No abbreviations and very easy to set-up. I'm not dissing the JR radio. They're both a high quality radio and anyone who knows how to fly will accell with either one.

It's better being addicted to helis than drugs and alcohol.

That is exactly what I told my girlfriend when she heard the price on the 12z I am planning on purchasing.

LoL :D
The guys I work with stop at the bar everyday at the end of the day. I go home, pick up my helis and go to the field. The money they spend in a month at the bar, they could buy a brand new heli set-up with a radio.

Meh, getting drunk is overrated anyway. I'd much rather have the helis.
