Good morning all,

My question is, I am looking for a Digital Tachometer and Hanger 9 has a Micro Digital Tachometer for $27.99.

Is this a good buy or is there something better? I do not want to spend alot of money.

How important is a tach oppsed to doing it by sound.

Thank you for your help.

The Hanger 9 tach is primarily for airplane props. It won't be any good for a helicopter. You need to tach a heli while in a hover to get the most accurate reading which requires an optical tach or an on-board tach.

It is impossible to get a precise head speed just by listening. If you have years of experience on a single model, can get fairly close, but it won't be extremely accurate. The guys at my club have contests to see how close we can guess head speed just by listening and even the pros are off most of the time.

I would recommend investing in a good optical tach or find someone in your area that already has one.
