Greetings,

I am refurbishing an old but sound Kyosho Concept 30 DX for a customer at our shop, and one of the steps is I plan to replace the stock foam blades with wooden ones for future ease in replacement.

As per http://www.kyoshoamerica.com/techtips/helicopters.asp I have the replacement grips ordered, however none of our wholesalers seem to stock a decently priced 530mm blade for some reason, we don't need carbons or anything like that. Century Swift blades at 520mm seem like they should work, however I don't know if they would be suitable in this instance being it would be swung by a possibly heavier .30 nitro bird instead of the .30 size electric which I'm guessing would be a bit lighter.

as for what we are planning on putting in the concept;
an optic 6 fixed frequency radio set,
an os .37 because it seems to be the same price overall to the .32, after all isn't bigger better? :)
and a gy401 gyro with a standard servo currently

We plan on a better servo later, but untill we know this bird will take wing again the customer doesn't want to go completly overboard. He will use the concept untill he stuffs it into the ground or decides to move to a more modern .30 heli, but as there is nothing broken or wrong with the concept right now he will just use it to deferr the price of the new one.

Chris

P.S. What do you guys think of the Century Hawk, I am thinking of one of those for myself ;)

Hold on Chris, that Kyosho tech tip is misleading. The original DX, SE, & SX blades were 495mm lenght with 8mm root and 3mm bolt. The SR was a 515mm lenght with 12mm root and 3mm bolt. Later the VR used a 530mm lenght blade with a 12mm root and a 4mm bolt. If you upgrade a DX, you should also replace the head and linkage, main shaft, and tail boom with drive wire. You see the SR was also the first Concept model to be stretched at the tail and a taller main shaft installed. If you do not want to do a full blade upgrade, look for a set of blades no longer than 500mm in lenght, with a 12mm root, and a 3mm bolt hole. With all the new electrics coming out, you might be able to find the blades you need.

Greetings and salutations,

Working on the rebuild of our customers Concept 30, putting a OS .37 in it with a hitec optic 6 and a 401 gyro. The old equipment was a Supertigre g34 heli, kyosho 6fm-h, and futaba fp-g153bb gyro. The radio set was updated as the old stuff was kind of antiquated, basically we have started putting him together a .30 machine and bypassing the cost of the heli by using the old one untill it is not repairable.

The old Concept 30 had 2 sets of stock blades, one used and one new, but we decided to upgade to some that were still available. Below is the helimax wood blades I found, they are a hair longer but they should work, if anything they might need a carefull trimming but I am going to test them first.

I found the pipes he had brought in would not fit the OS, so I'm looking at either the helimax muffler or tuned pipe for it as they still make a pipe for the concept 30.

I can't wait to see the old bird take to the sky, I remember drooling over the concepts in tower hobbies catalogues in my younger years :)

Oh yeah, he also has 2 new helimax booms, one in white, one in blue...
