View Full Version : Micro Electric Lubrication.....?!?!?

Hi,

anyone have thoughts on lubrication for micros ( specifically CP Pro ) - should I leave well enough alone, or should I take the "if it moves - lubricate it" path ?

I am not used to "running dry" on anything, but I can't seem to find much ( any ) info on this topic.....although I did see somewhere about using shaver oil, and/or silicon spray..............

thanks for any and all replies !

I couldn't even find a dipstick on that thing to check the oil!

Seriously, don't lube any ball links, but a drop of tri-flo on the main shaft wouldn't hurt where the washout and collective mechanism moves, I guess. I've never given any thought to lubing the micros. Make sure you don't get any lube into the electric parts. Most bearings come pre-packed with grease, so don't worry about those.

Thanks for the reply - "dipstick" got lost on a roll - :D ,

appreciate your thoughts, I really wasn't sure...

While you're on the subject of lube, where are the good places to lube a raptor 30. I had a Nexus prior to the raptor and the manual had all the spots to lube it. I didn't find the same thing on the raptor. Also what type of lube works best?

The biggest places I lube mine are the tail shaft slider and the main shaft. Just a smidgen of Tri-Flo is all I use. It's probably a good idea to stay away from any ball links with it. If you're doing a big tear-down, re-greasing the one-way bearing is a good idea as well. Most everything else should either be dry or have a dry lubricant on it so as not to attract dirt. It's pretty hard to keep glow fuel from getting all over it anyway, so it's probably a moot point. As for bearings, they're usually sealed. Thrust bearings (the sandwitch type bearings that are 3 piece), on the other hand can and should be greased. They are usually used in blade grips and main shafts of larger heli's.

Thanks a lot. My nexus had me lube the thing everywhere so it was unusual for me not to see nearly the same amount of lube going into the rappy.

I first saw this question in the RC Heli Magazine, Oct/Nov 2006 Issue #7. I find it interesting that they give yet another answer that is not shown here in the thread.

quote: "Dont' lube the ball links, leave them dry. Lubricant will attract dust and debris particles that can seriously hinder movement on a micro. Put a drop of 3-in-1 or Marvel Mystery Oil on the top of the swash plate where the metal ball surrounds the main shaft. Other than that, lube isn't really necessary on a micro. Just be sure that you keep things nice and clean between flights. Mike"

I assume "Mike" is a writer for the magazine. RC Heli staff, wouldn't it make sense to put these type entries into the thread also? It might even spur some interest in your magazine! wink wink
