Wellll, I'm certainly no expert, but I had major success with the Blade CP. However, I think if you are not too sure about flying, you could even start on the Blade CX or another two-rotor machine like that. It really depends a lot on you. Your budget, your nerves, your willingness to crash and repair, things like that. I haven't heard of anyone who hasn't crashed a number of times, and at the same time I haven't heard of too many people, who after they mastered some hovering skills, could not be Kept Away from flying their heli. Crash or not, I think most of us would rather fly and crash than not fly at all.
But with crashing comes expense. Repairing the Blade CP is not too expensive, but you need to learn how it is put together, since there are no instructions for repairing the Blade. I had to learn by doing. I have done two major repairs on my blade CP and each cost me less than 50 dollars
If I crash something like my Helimax Pro EP MX400, I will spend lots to repair it, which I don't really want to do.
I have found for me, I will use the repairable Blade CP for learning new things, and the Helimax MX400 for practicing what I have learned. That being said ( I can see all of you smiling right now) If repairs on the Blade take too long or are unsuccessful, you can bet I will be trying that new manuever on My Helimax before too long. Just like waiting for the wind to die down...Oh what the heck, I'm going to fly anyway! Found the wind to be a challenge but not an obstacle.
Anyway,
Hope that helps a little bit. I see many ideas about learing to fly, the best way to do so is to just go out and get a heli and begin from there PS if you have the money, you might find a nitro heli a better platform for learning since they are a little more stable than the electrics. But more costly.

Just to second what frair1 said. I have the same helis, a Blade CP and an MX400 Pro and I do my practicing, new things on the CP then use that on the MX400. Plus you can practice with the CP inside if you have room. The MX is much better outside. It is more stable than the CP because of its size so if you can do it on the CP it should be easier on a larger heli. I really like the MX400 and fly it much more now then my CP now that I don't cra$$$h as much.
From my own experience stay away from a fixed pitch heli. I purchased a Hummingbird Elite FP first and was teaching myself how to fly and could never get it to fly very well. Out of frustration I took it to my LHS, not where I purchased it, and he popped it up to a hover but said it was not very easy to fly. He had gotten the Blade CPs in the day before and showed me one. I walked out with the CP that day and could do a sloppy hover it in about a week. I just started using a simulator only because I want to practice nose in and 3D.
Good luck and take baby steps. They are not easy to fly but when you do something new it is rewarding.

Isn't the v4 the Hummingbird in the latest RC Heli issue? Check out that issue if you haven't already

Find somebody to help you with set-up. Improper set-up will result in a crashed heli. The blade cp is ready to fly out of the box. I learned on the sim ,but learned to hover for real with the blade in my dining room even though the Caliber30 is my first heli. Now I just fly my blade on rainy days in my house. Once you learn how to fly, I suggest going to a high powered brushless like a Trex or a nitro of the 50 sized range. Good luck.
