I have a quick charge Hobbico MK II pro and tonight while charging my JR 9303 stock Battery 9.6V 600 Mah Ni Cad i overheated the battery and the heat shrink came off and the bottom of the radio was hot. At what rate should i charge that battery. I will be buying a new one so im looking for a general rule of thumb for Nicads and NmHi when using a quick charger

As a general rule, a battery shouldn't be charged at a rate more than 1C, or 1 X it's capacity in milliamps. A 600mAh battery should be charged at .6A, a 2000 mAh battery should be charged at no more than 2.0A. This should charge a battery that is completely drained in about an hour.
If you've got the time, you can always charge them slower to get more life out of them. Can you charge them faster? Yes, but it will reduce the life of the battery and possibly cause a fire if they get too hot. Normally, a battery will get warm once it reaches it's full capacity so a little warmth isn't anything to get worried about.
The battery in your radio should peak out at 11.4 volts when charged (yes, I know, it's a 9.6v battery ;) ). Make sure your charger is set to an 8 cell battery for your TX.
