We have a Predator gasser here too (video is coming soon). It will fly aerobatics, but its not really fair to say it is "3D" capable. It does very well for what it is, but you can't change the fact it is nearly 14 pounds (empty) with 710mm blades. A 90 nitro with the same size rotor disk usually weighs from 9.5 to 12 pounds. The extra weight is very noticeable when you try to really push it.

I know all about the Predator, I've been wanting one of those for two years now, just a bit too expensive for me. I thought Chopper3 was refering to a helicopter actually named Gass Gass.

Aaron, how did you get yours to 14 lbs? Mine only weighs in at 12lbs.6 oz. which is 4 1/2 lbs. lighter then my friend Vario Benzine Aerobatic.
I will admit that it is not quite as agile as my 90, but is is more then my Robbe 60 or MinAir 60.

Here are some videos of the Predator in the hands of some good pilots:

Our Predator that I am referring to was reviewed in issue 19, and it was set up with JR 8717 servos, a JR 770 gyro and a Gemini Receiver power system. We have painted canopy and a tuned muffler that added some weight, but ours came in at 13 pounds 10 ounces even with the pull start removed. If you have one flying more than a pound lighter it would add to the aerobatic ability significantly. Even in the videos you posted though, the helicopter appears heavy, look how fast it sinks in that first video in an auto. But, to be fair, yes the flights could be termed 3D. I think the helicopter is heavy to be truly 3D capable. You have to be gentle with it and finesse it through aerobatics. Even ours heavy and stock it will do most of the maneuvers in the book, and you can get the engines fine hopped up to run better. It really depends on what you consider 3D capable. I think when you fly a nitro or electric 90, back to back with a gasser, you really see the difference. The gasser just is simply not as 3D capable.
So, I guess I should clarify my first post. Gassers will do 3D, but I have yet to see one that can deliver the same level of performance as a nitro or electric of the same size. Is it cool to be able to fly gentle 3D for 20+ minutes on cheap fuel? hell ya!!

Aaron, you need to put that gasser on a diet. I don't know how much heavier those 8717's are, but I've got 8311's and I know I'm running a heavier gyro than that (6100), 2700 mAh NiMH pack, GV-1, tuned muffler, Maverikk 680's with a stock 231 and I'm at about 12.5 lbs dry WITH the pull-start. I haven't seen improvements on the NX from my Pred that would increase the weight by 2 lbs.
