over all the build is ez and fast only tricky part is servo install but Align dose a good job at supplying alot of spacers and blocks for different seros so it went good Dans zero pictch trick made the head setup much ezer too ,,, all i have left is tieing up all the wires clean and finish programming the radio ,,,, next weekend weather promiting i should have Air Pics :p
Yes as i Promised Brian at HeliProz I added decals that he gave me for FREE with the kit :D and also didnt forget my RC Heli decals either  reminds me i need to mail for more RC Heli decals now LOL ;)

I've been thinking about getting a T-Rex 500 (as opposed to the 450V2) and your writeup is adding fuel to the fire! Stupid question: What does CF mean, as in T-Rex 500CF?

Carbon Fiber - It's the material the frames are made out of. The kit is also available with Fiberglass frames. It is the T-Rex 500GF.

I have now completed tieing up all the wires ,,, I am useing a JR R790 Syn RX so I need to get to the Scan Button . I mounted the Rx plugs to front and added a 6"Servo ext to battery output (red/white/black) so now I have a way to plug in NiCad pack for safe bench work . should be ez to simply tuck it in when flying on main Lipo pack :D
The 500CF only comes in Black carbon Fiber right now .... I have not seen a 500GF to even know what color it is ,,,,CF frame and CF stock blades are the only difference between CF and GF kits that has Fiberglass frame and blades :D

My first thought was Carbon Fiber, but then I figured that was way too obvious. Thanks for the info. I visited my local hobby store today during lunch, and they have two T-Rex 500CF kits there; one with blades and one without. What would be the advantage of buying the kit without the blades?
WiscHeli

get the ones with blades ,,,, I have seen a couple after maket blades for other 500 class models ... but Align has not put out blades alone yet sould be out in a week or 2 ;)

Thank you.
Another question: Would it be cheaper to just buy two complete kits? In other words, are helicopters like cars in the sense that an entire helicopter worth of spare parts would cost much more than the kit?

you can if you want ... But I wouldnt ,,parts for a 500 are going to be as ez to get as the 450, 600e and 600n very soon many are handling them
ask your LHS if they are handling parts ,,, Remeber I am almost 100% mail order here with NO LHS close :(

I am charging 3 parks right now for morning ...... problem i have is i didnt get my order today for gears 14t-17t and chart shows i should use 16t or 17t for 4s packs 1940--2080Rmp ... all i have is 12t 13t that came in kit
13t/162t = 12.46 ... 14.8v ... 1600mv = 1680 head speed
seeing low head speed maybe hover and no parts can be ordered for 1-2 weeks i added some training gear just in case ....
some advice please should i try it or wait till I get the gears

Here is the problem when you have two kits, how on earth do resist the urge to just buy a few more servos gyro and the other bits and end up with two flying helis, haha i tried it before and from what i learnt it costs more money.i think your just best repairing from spares. half the heli normally comes off alright in a crash it just normally the same parts that damage all the time.
thats a sweet looking heli Russ how much is a battery for one of them? cant wait to see it flying, it be interestig to hear what it flys like compared to the 450

after the wind died down today  I got 3 flights on my 500CF and 2 flights on my 450se :D
even not haveing the right gears yet the 500 flow GREAT a little low on head speed I turned up the picth .. I do indeed have I feel the best trainer for electrics it is so stable after 2 flights with the 500 I took up the 450 for 2 packs ,,, still twichy ;) Back to the 500 with the Hong Kong pack .. beleive it or not if flow almost the same as the TP packs ,, time will tell if it lasts if I get 30 good flights on it with no puffing i might get 2 more
all the 500 flights were 5 mins i have not recharged yet to check draw if the weather is good Sunday with no wind  I will try it again today only had a hour from wind dropping till dark
UPS came by the house and left this. :)
Here's my canopy for now. ;)

Thanks for that information on the Bobs videos.
Yeah I'll have to pick your brain for what you did so far as motor pinion gear and battery selection.
I haven't decided on what servos to use on the swash yet, I have a spare S9650 that I'm thinking about using on the tail with the JR G7703D gryo.
For the RX I have a Spektrum AR7000
The motor and the ESC will be stock for now.
This is what I got so far on the build
