I want to buy a sim that allows me to use my own radio (DX7) and has free upgrades. I refuse to use a sim where I have to use the sims substandard radio. Which sim is better? I'm a newbie, still learning to hover and get a handle on my Mini titan, so I can eventually do FF and other stuff.
XTR Reflex: http://www.modelrectifier.com/rc-products/flight-simulators.asp
I saw the Reflex sim at the iHobby show and it has absolutely amazing graphics and flight characteristics. Only downside is no wireless connection to computer like other sims. OK aircraft library
Phoenix: http://www.phoenix-sim.com/welcome.htm
I've read a lot of good things about this sim, but have never seen it in person. From their Web site the graphics look amazing and on par with Reflex. Extensive aircraft library.
FS One: http://www.fsone.com/
I saw the FS One sim at the iHobby show and it has good graphics and OK heli flight characteristics. Allows wireless connection to computer. Have to pay for additional aircraft updates.
You left out Real Flight in your post. What do you think about it?

I left out Realflight because I want to only use my own radio with the sim and RF doesn't allow it.

Yes it does.
I've used my DX7 with Real Flight G3.5. It has an adapter cable that goes between your TX and the "TX" that comes with the sim.
Plus, there is an extensive base of user created aircraft and flying sites for it.

Oops, my bad. :o I didn't realize you could use your own radio. I assume G4 will do the same.

"The connectors on the InterLink Elite cord and included adapters make the InterLink Elite compatible with the trainer jack on most Futaba® and all JR®, Spektrum™ and Tower Hobbies® systems."

Yup. G4 will work with a DX7.
Plus, you could use the included "TX" if your TX battery is dead, or your TX needs repair. ;)
LMAORF all I can say is anything but G3.5 or G4 only cuz they charge you for upgrades and people pay it only $29.99  LOL!

With G3.5 / G4 you can go online and download:
294+ aircraft models
827+ aircraft variants
820+ aircraft color schemes
54+ photo fields
129+ airports
110+ recordings
All for free.
They are all user made, but there are quite a few high quality ones in there...

No surprise here, I vote for Phoenix.
And I'm a guy who owns 2 copies of RF. STILL owns 2 copies of RealFlight.
Phoenix is it! I'm not even going to go into detail, but REAL FLIGHT SUCKS, PHOENIX ROCKS!
You cant really get a more unbiased opininion, can ya?
You'll find that the MAJORITY of the guys who fly Phoenix now, all USED to fly Real Flight. ??? It's true.
Oh, and with Phoenix, there are no expansion packs, etc..
Why pay $40 for a few new flying sites and a couple of models?
On Phoenix, everything is free, and they add downloads all the time!
Hey Jade its all good im not trying to upset you I know all about the free stuff FMS has all of them to and that sim is free just remember opinions are as_ _ _ _ es everyones got one and they all stink dont take it personnel :)

I'm not upset about anything .
I just want to make sure RealFlight is represented fairly, since there was some 'bashing' going on.

when I Buy a Sim it will not be for all the models all the flying sites ,,,, to me it will be a TOOL to help my flying ,,, if i want a game i have my sons PS2 PS1 he wants a PS3 ect ... to me all i want is a tool to fly like a model I have to help with real RC models only
with that said what is best as a tool .... I have never used a Sim before only a PS2 RC game

They are all good tools to learn on. I learned with G3.5, bboy and DJB2.0 use Phoenix, other people use other sims. You're going to get opinions from everyone saying their sim is the 'best'
What makes one the 'best' will be what 'else' you are looking for in it.
For example:
If you want one for free, then FMS is best.
http://n-old.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html
If you want to avoid paying a lot, then ClearView is 'best' at $39.95.
http://www.clearviewrc.com/index.html
If you want a sim "TX", and want lots of choices for models and editing (to match your own collection), then G3.5/G4 are 'best'.
http://www.realflight.com
If you want a really good looking sim, with better flying physics than G3.5 (according to some ;)), and have a TX, then Phoenix would be 'best'.
http://www.phoenix-sim.com/
If you want wireless TX support for a DX7, then FSOne is 'best' ( only one that supports it :p ).
http://www.fsone.com
I was deliberating for a long time on whether to get FSOne or G3.5. I really wanted the wireless DX7 support, but in the end I liked the amount of user content G3.5 had more. That's what made G3.5 the 'best' for me.
You need to make a decision based on what you are looking for in the sim.
In my opinion, Phoenix or G4 would be the 'best' tool for you, WiscHeli. They are both good sims, and with both you can get models of various Align helis to make it feel like you're flying 'your' heli.

That's an awesome point of view JadeKnight, never thought of it that way until you spelled it out...
When I was at the iHobby show in Chicago this past fall I talked to the factory rep for Reflex and I asked him if they had wireless connectivity...he looked at me like I was crazy until I told him he should go check out the FS One demo because they had it.
Now I'm stuck between RF G4 and Phoenix, but leaning heavily towards Phoenix.

I really like the idea of NOT useing my Radio for a Sim maybe rewire and move the switches in the Sim Tx to match a 9303
why use your radio and run the risk of shorting something or wearing on the gimbels
yes manyly Trexs and i fly sport planes ,,,, i want water take offs and landing too
I am not rich but what i have in RCs i can justify $100-200 for a Sim
Well said Jade and your right sims are a tool and to help with are flying and there is nothing wrong with G3.5 or G4 the tool what I have a problem with is the company and there aproach to us the RC consumers I dont think they care about the guy who bought g3.5 and if you want G4 its another $200 when it is just a download to upgrade the game hence what you said about the mod comunity thats what RC to me is all about and to let you know I did not say it was the best its awsome but not the best they are all good tools

I started with the RealFlite G-2 and sold it to a friend and bought the Reflex XTR. I will never need to buy another simulator. I rate it around 95% real feel to my nitro heli. The remaining 5% is fueling up the real heli and carrying it out to the flite line. :D
Fly it like the sim!

Reflex is great. Just make sure your computer will run it well. Try the demo and turn on the FPS reading, you need at min of 30FPS for a smooth run.
It does not suport online play yet. That is the only thing that I do not like about it.
I have both G3.5 and Phoenix and I find myself using the G3.5 more.
There was a magazine that did a comparison between sims here's the breakdown.
