There are more and more RC Heli Members here from Wisconsin

We should set a date and a place like after the Holidays in the middle of the state for all to meet and show off our Models... also we can put together a Fuel order at that time

My Daughter goes to school at UW-Point and works at a Hotel Restraint we could get a Group Rate there. Also Stevens Point would be in the Middle of the state or even a Tri-State area if people want to come

Any Wisc. Align Reps appointed yet and invite any Companies Reps

My Wife and I would like a weekend away when it comes to winters here :D

I'd be up for it. Point's only a 20 minute drive for me. Lemme know when and I'll clear the calendar.

Is there a club field in Steven's Point or is River Valley the closest one?

If ya wanna do something at RVF, I'm in. Who's got a truck with a plow? Im not shoveling a damn field.

The RC Heli mag staff can have a LAYOVER at Mosinee, but dont forget both Wisconsin Rapids and Stevens Point also have an airport, too.

Shawn can drive, Mike, Aaron and Ryan, they'll have to fly.
Its only about 75 degrees cooler here than it will be in SoCal. But it's still "short sleeves" for us.

And yeah, ya better bring that Tractor. There is about (so far) a foot of snow accumulation in central Wisconsin. Like I said, I AINT shoveling.

If ya wanna go "south" the SWARM club usually has an annual New Years Day fun fly, "Snow or Shine"

We've got willing guests, now we just need a location.
I was thinking indoor, but looks like you guys are looking to be outside. I guess I'll have to get thinking about where now. It'll need to be somewhere open with a heated building for warming up as well.
hmmmm

I called my dauther shes checking on a group rate at the Holiday Inn off Hwy 10 and 51... I will know this weekend, what date should we look at Jan 26th,27th or Feb 2nd,3rd past the holiday crazys not yet in to family spring holidays

also in time for the April issue for pics

TDS you can try to find a indoor place for electrics dont know if the UW or a School would let us use a feild house.... for outdoors a club feild or a empty parking lot plenty of places Old fleetfarm comes to mind no cars in years there ... my AMA 2008 card is in hand now :D

tdswan

The hardest thing is finding something clear enough to land on and safe enough to the public. Especially in the winter. SPASH (Stevens Point Are Senior High) has a HUGE fieldhouse and I've also flown nitro in the parking lot, but it's not exactly the safest spot since there's residential all around.
Our field flying site is way too remote and is covered in about a foot of snow and rising. I dunno...

WiscHeli, nothing got deleted :D
here is a "bump" for you.

Unless there is spam advertising Viagra or something that can make you up to 4 inches bigger, seldom does a thread ever get deleted.

By default, only threads from the past 30 days are visible.
You can change this.

I got nothin'! Anyone got an idea? I don't even know anyone that I could talk to! If it's outdoor you guys want, we can just go to my club field. If it's indoor, someone's gonna have to come up with an idea. Wintertime leaves me with little to no extra time to find a place. Come on, Wisconsinites! Help me out here.

The flying field I fly at in Wausua has a winter fun fly on Feb 16.

I think it would be cool if we raid it and make it mostly a helicopter fly in. That would piss the plankers off... :D :p

Our field is plowed by one of the members. The flight line is not plowed, but us heli guys do not need much space for taking off or landing.

Troy ... Tiny W. is a members 1st name

No I am not Tiny W.

My name is John Schieffer. We only have a total of about 5 people that fly heli's in the club. Tiny, flies a trex 450, he has been flying for just a little while.

One of the other pilots flies a swift, he likes the electric stuff mostly.

I am working on converting to other guys that fly 35% plankers.

tdswan
01-22-2008, 01:07 AM
Oh, I figured that, it just sounded silly. :p
Are we in agreement now? We'll just meet at the fun-fly? Who needs to get a fuel order together?

WiscHeli
01-22-2008, 01:23 AM
You Know I go to all Wausau events ,,, count me in

yes i will need Fuel ,, no one in central or northern Wisc handles Heli Fuel

tdswan
01-22-2008, 01:31 AM
Sounds good, We might as well save ourselves some money. Who else is getting in on the fuel? Jimras? Dood? anyone else in WI looking to save some? It'll probably be delivered somewhere central. I have a friend with a business in Plover where it could be delivered. Only a mile off from I-39.

So are some of you trying to show up for this Saturday. As far as I know the weather should be about 22 degrees. I am flying no matter what, I want to try out my radio. Hope to see other Wisconsinites there.

It would be cool to out number the plankers.

TD, can I get mine autographed? :D

Yup, programming's a cinch. I can have a model set up in minutes and a few more for setting up the pitch. It's super easy!
Russ, what I need is a balancer. I thought at first I wouldn't mind it, but now it'll bump the throttle when I'm messing with my plane getting it ready to fly. It's a bit annoying.

I'll see you there, Chief! My old Hyper gonna make an appearance? :D

jschief

I'll see you there, Chief! My old Hyper gonna make an appearance?

Yep. I think it will be cool if we have more Heli pilots than planker pilots.

I have to still do a little setup with my heli, I haven't had a chance to fly it with the new radio, and I did a little changing on the heli linkages.

tdswan
02-15-2008, 01:46 AM
Cool! I just got done setting up my last heli. I had been waiting on a receiver for my Raptor for a while. The 7000's were on backorder. I'm not sure which ones will be flying on Saturday, but I'll probably have them all there.

Dood
02-15-2008, 02:13 AM
I got the Knight 3D mostly set up. I still have to finish setting up my throttle curves, then finish setting up my 611.

I got 2 1/2 gallons of last years fuel sitting around, I should be able to use up the half gallon tomorrow finishing set-ups.

2 gallons is quite a bit to burn on a 50 in one day ( a cold day at that), I might need some help.

Dood

For anyone who navigates primarily via GPS, (like me)

the field coordinates are
44d 56' 49" N
89d 43' 38" W

-or-

44.94834 N
89.72762 W

Whichever format you prefer

Dood
02-15-2008, 04:15 AM
I gotta add one more thing.

BRING DRY SOCKS.

you just know, that at some point, you're gonna be trudging through some snow to pick up a heli.

Cold, wet feet, for sure, can ruin your day.

jschief
02-15-2008, 02:09 PM
Yep. I think it will be cool if we have more Heli pilots than planker pilots.

You can still bring a airplane if you want, I do have a beater plane with floats so I can land in snow.

One of the members is bringing a snowmobile incase you have to recover your aircraft in the deep stuff. I think we have about 40 inches of snow in the flying area but parking area will be plowed.

Well, not a ton of flying....that darn sun is waaaayyyy too low in the winter to have a south-ward facing fligtline! I got 2 short hops with the gasser, but opted not to lose it in the sun. Instead, I threw the Stryker up for a few flights and pretty much B.S.'d the rest of the day away. That's what fun fly's are for anyway! ;)
It was good to meet you guys! I even met one gentleman by the name of John that isn't a forum member, but watches the drama from the sidelines. :( I still had fun, but I'm still looking forward to the warmer days of summer. *sigh*
Thanks to the Wausau RC Sportsman for hosting the event. There were free hot dogs and chili, not to mention some great mome-made cookies! No landing fee and they wouldn't take money for the food, either!
edit: I just noticed how much interest this even alone has generated! over 1100 hits!

I had a great time , it was nice to meet all the people from the forum .
Hopefully next time it will be better conditions and we all can get some flying in .
Nice people at the club , could`nt ask for better host club in those conditions .
It did seem to be a challeng to get the nitro ships tunned well , td`s gasser seemed to handle it the best . His stryker had to warm up to run better ( lipo ) seemed that once he flew it for a minute or so it got enough heat buld up and ran better .
COLD WEATHER HAS ITS CHALLENGES . :D
