Hi there!
I am a confused beginner, just in heli that is. Over a week ago I got myself a GY611 for my Rappy 50 SE. I had taken the advise from an experience heli flyer i had known. He advised me that it would serve me well in the long run if I pick the GY611 instead of the GY401. But over the weekend when I brought my setup to my local flying field for assistance, most of the experience flyers there started making fun of of me. Therefore, I wish right now if there are experience flyers out there who can advise me what should I do. Should I get another gyro for my setup? Thank you.

Making fun of you???? That's one of the best combos out there. Yes, a little big for a beginner's shoes, but will grow with you once you get into 3D. Wise choice. I find myself wanting a little more holding power now that I'm getting into backwards and inverted flight and wish I had one. :(

Thanks for the advise TDSWAN. So do you think I should keep the GY611 for now and have another gyro fitted in? I feel kind of "Sheepish" now being with those guys. Makes me feel a need to look for a new field to fly. :(

They're jealous of the gyro. Most of them probably can't afford it. I know I can't. Just keep on using that gyro. It'll save you headaches in the future. Them guys giving you s@#* will wear off in time.

Definitely jealousy. You can't have "too much" gyro no matter what skill level your at. How can a better gyro hinder your learning?
That's like saying. "Look at him, his batteries last way too long."

That Gyro is no good.....get rid of it...............Since your new and I am a nice guy, I'll trade you for a gy401..... :D
The 611 is awsome but a bit complicated to setup for a begginer learn it and use it. It works great. Only downside is as a begginer if you crash and break the gyro, its costly.
BTW, I have been flying for a number of years now and I still have not outgrown my 401. I use the 611's on my 90 size ships and 401's on the 50's but you can diffently tell how much better the 611 is once you get good enough.

Thanks everyone for your encouraging words and support. I think I better put in more time on my Reflex to make sure I won't trash that Gyro. It's worth more that my Rappy. I had actually thought that by investing on GY611 I won't have to think about getting a better one later. Actually, I was on a tight budget, but I just decided to squeeze a little more resources for it. I guess it was a poor judgement on my part, the idea seems to work for the other hobbies I have, but not in Heli I guess.

Helis are the one place you want to start off with good equipment. I bought a bad gyro and trashed my chopper when the tail started spinning like the numbers at the gas staion. I replaced it with another bad gyro on the advice of another heli guy. Finally I bought a 201 (I was broke by then) that has worked great. Wish I had a 401 and really wish I had a 611. As for the "encouragement" from you field...I fly at a hostil field that think choppers were designed by the devil just to mess with the fixed wing guys. They are right of course but keep flying, practice and eventually they will be asking you for advice!
