Hey Everyone
Well, i have a blade cp and am in th eprocess of learning how to hover. However, it is not comming easy, so i am wondering if there are any tips that make learning a bit easier.

Thanks

The best tip you will ever get is to use a simulator. It will speed the learning process and is much cheaper in the long run.

A sim is your best bet. Im a newb too and had been hovering my raptor 50 for about a month and when i bought my blade it took about 5-6 flights before i could hover the blade. The blade CP really is not a good starter heli.

This is a lot harder than gliders!! I am using Real Flt G3, with the beginner heli. I slowed down the expo and dual rate. So far, every time I leave the ground, I end up in a set of Dutch rolls that just get bigger and bigger until they include the ground :(

i was wondering if it really is easier to hover on a raptor 50 or something of that sort than a blde. the people at my LHS say that it is not such a great beginer heli because of its size and reletive unstableness.

A 50 would be much easier to hover than a micro heli. It has greater mass which causes it to react slower. However, if you already have a BCP and take your time learning on it, when you do progress to a nitro it will be a walk in the park.

I AGREE! Another thing i find is if i fly the blade too much (it is possible?) i find that my Raptor dances all over since the blade is twitchy and needs lots O' stick to hover but if you get good with the blade a nitro size bird should be easy to get the hang of.

I agree that the blade CP is going to be a challanging first bird, but its easy to fix and cheap... you may want to get some paddle weights to help tame it down.

well, i shall go to my LHS and get some paddle weights..and keep pressing on..little by little. thanks for the pointers :)

I still consider myself a beginner and have been flying the Blade CP for a couple of months. The two biggest steps to a solid hover were adding two sets of flybar weights (3 total) and the Bell upgrade. I have a pretty regular light breeze here so the extra weights made a huge difference in stability. I took one set of weights off leaving two sets, one at each end of the flybar (on each side) when I got a pair of the new Plasti-blades. The plasti-blades are heavier then the wood blades so three sets were too much.
I put off adding the Bell upgrade because everyone said it would be more responsive and I thought this thing is all over the place why would I want it MORE responsive. Wrong thinking, I put the bell upgrade on and in twenty minutes I had the most stable hover yet. When the CP starts to drift and you bump the control it jumps back in line.
My blade also flew better when I upgraded to a Li-Po battery but of course if you do that you have to upgrade the motor, add heat sinks, get a Li-Po charger.

I hope this helps a little,
Guidoco

I agree adding the bell upgrade really makes a Cp respond the way it should i was having problems going from my blade to my raptor50 . I would over fly the raptor since the blade needed so much input to get it to respond

funny...i have the bell upgrade and i though that it would only make thins worse, but i geuss that i will install it now. how many weights do u think that i should have on while still learning?

thanks

Im still learning and i did not add any but if your concerned about the heli being twitchy add one set.

I was reading all the good advice about hovering the Blade CP. I got mine about six months ago and for a while I thought I would never get it to hover. The simulator didn't seem to helpme too much. It just seemed too different than the real thing. So I just kept fllying, crashing and rebuilding ( I got really good at that too.) And finally It just came to me. Now I can lift off and hold it in a nice tight hover, (even in the house) I'm starting to be able to fly around a while and land without a crash. I recently bought a Ikarus Vipor 70 and with my Blade experience was able to hover it in about a half an hour of trying. Its true a bigger heli is a little more stable. If you can hover a micro like the Blade CP you won't have too much trouble with the bigger ones. So anyone out there just starting, hang in there you'll get it. Now , nose in hovering..... I see more rebuilding in my future. :(

Hi Aeronot,
I have not flown a nitro heli, but I can tell you with some practice, you will be able to hover the Blade. I have been learing on the Blade for about five months and right now I have total confidence in a tail in hover. I also have begun some forward flight. Keep at it, repair it if you have to but keep trying and you will get it. For some learning guidance go here: Radd's School of Rotary flight (http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html) 3

Have Fun
Brian

is it possible to have a hands free hover on a trex 450se? mine slides to the left on take-off/hoover. would you adjust links or make adjustments on the subtrim on the radio? something else? is it wishful thinking?
