View Full Version : #36 flew easier then my T-Rex?

Hrrm.. It must be something about my setup but my gutted walkera 36 flew so easy and stable and this T-rex cde is quite twitchy I did swap over the 36's paddles(with built in weights) which tamed it a bit but the big one still seems very floaty and unpredictable. (that and I think this hs50 on the tail is junk as it doesn't seem to hold a center  )

I have the swash nice and level, tracking is spot on, and cog is as level as I can get it with just the slightest nose heavy.

It's almost making me want to put the reciever and 401 back in my 36

At least none of them has kissed dirt yet, at least when I was sensable enough to fly them during the day! (thank you g3)

I guess the other answer might be the T-rex is just a bit much for my skill level right now, both flying and setup

the CDE trex can be very aggresive, make sure you have your swash travel limited, and you may want to add some expo to the cyclic controls. The elevator rocker assmebly is also known to be a little sticky if attention is not paid. Make sure there are no sticky ball links above or below the swash. I also have not had the best of luck using a HS-50 on the tail. I would also look into some paddle weights, you can add 2 or even 3 to get the cyclic tamed down.

I like aggresive heli controls. :D
My Trex is full throw set-up with no expo's.

don't get me wrong, I like to set up my own models very aggresive (unless its for aerial photography) but I think we could all agree that making the setup more sedate will make learning much easier, and if you are already used to a heli that is less aggresive it may take some time to work into a machine that has quicker response. ;)

I'm getting the hang of the speed of the hevier paddles on the Rex, however I think I'm going to chuck the speed control out of a window, along with the tail servo.

The whole time I was running the 36 I was using it's stock 10cell aaa pack for 5 minute flights, occasionally it would lose power momentarily, I figured it was a voltage drop from the cheesy pack. I now have an apogee 1500 20c 3cell pack and the power drops are continuing. I am now suspecting the align 25 amp speed control and possibly motor. I have it set rignt below the spur gears for maximum air flow.

Any reccomendations for better speed control/motor combinations that won't break the bank? Not needing 3d, just needing to not fall from the sky. The Align parts have about 20 flights on them but have gliched each of those flights... the servos aren't glitching when it does this so it shouldn't be the radio...

As for the tail servo I'm going to order the digital airtronics one that rc heli used on the SE review, hopefully this will fix the wandering center....

I have had great luck with the align 35 that comes with the SE. the quark 33 amp or the castle 35 amp will work great too, but cost a little more. The airtronics tail servo is a great option, make sure to turn on the digital mode on your 401 for maximum perfromance.

Well apparently this motor cut out is very common... I hear it happening with the cc35 and the align escs. Has anyone heard it happening with the quark or the jazz? Jazz is a real reach for my budget... but if I have to have it then I have to have it, it's not totally undoable. The Quark is only like 25 more or so then the align ones so is much easier on the wallet.

Hrrrmmmm

I picked up a Walkera 36 (a Raptor G2) a week or so ago.

It is much easier to fly than a TREX.

That being said (all things are relative), a properly set up TREX is extremely easy to fly.

If it is "twitchey", there is something wrong.

Even if the head RPM is over 3000 and the throws are at max, it should be smooth and stable (but very agile if pressed, even slightly).

I have since gotten used to the rex, now I would rate them (well for a beginner setting them both up no heli pros around here to let them look it over...) about the same in stability. I have put heavier paddles and a touch of expo in the cyclic. And gone to the jazz esc... oddly it doesn't randomly drop out of the sky now

As for the head speed thing, It was my beginner set up that caused the exteame headspeed on the Rex that I just wasn't ready for, it was much more responsive then it was with the align 25amp!

It flys now, but I am always learning more for setup and opperation, I am after all just about a month and a half into the hobby, there is still so much to learn :)
