Great idea, but you missed that they fit Futaba radios too?
"* Perfect fit for JR, Spektrum, and Airtronics radios with 4mm shaft"
You have a Futaba pictured with them on so they must fit Futaba radios also?
I'm guessing you are a new company?

I'm guessing you are a new company? We are a small shop that hopes to produce a quality product that people will benefit from and enjoy. Although a Futaba radio is pictured, we currently do not have any of that size machined and available as the remaining few were sold last week. If anyone is looking for a pair for their Futaba please let me know and I will PM you when we have more available.
Thanks for your interest and support!

I just received the new batch of RCStyx back from anodizing this evening and they look sweet! I now have them in blue, red, black, as well as clear (silver). They are in stock for Futaba/HiTec and JR/Spektrum radios in both the original ¾” and a new ½" size. Here is a quick picture I shot this evening with the 1/2" red RCStyx on my Tx:

These look good!
Can you tell me the thread size for the Futaba radio gimbals?
I want to print myself a pair to try out. :D

I want to print myself a pair to try out. :DThread size for Futabas is 3mm, JR is 4mm. The anodizing on the latest batch is amazing. The blue and red are intense. The black is incredibly dark and has a shiny finish. The clear anodizing brings out the silver color of the aluminum and adds a very shiny finish.

David. I am an RC Styx user.
The first set I got were from Shawn Pierce, the second set are from you.
Anyways, I like the look of the new "styx". Much smaller, look very much lighter.
As I like the original RCSTYX that were made by Shawn, my only complaint is that they are really heavy, and I can really feel the styx doing a number on the tension springs in my transmitter.
Could you please, if however possible, give me a precise weight of the original STYX, and your new 1/2" STYX.
Thanks David.
They look great do you have a picture of the black ones ? :)

I'm 1/2 thinking about the blue one's, I wonder if 3/4 is to big though?

Blax,
the 3/4" styx (19 centimeters) are the original ones.
Are they too big? Well,
How big are your hands?
Im a thumbs guy, I have pretty small hands. The indentation on the top of the knob feels pretty deep to me. It isnt exactly the most ergonomic feel.
Physically, they arent TOO big, but they are big. The problem is, they are really heavy.
Say your thumb slipped off the stick. What happens with the extra weight on the gimbal, is that the stick will slap back to the opposite direction, and then continue to wobble for roughly 1/2 second untill finally centering.
What I have done with my radio, is added quite a bit of tension to the gimbals. Without the added tension, the extra weight on your sticks might make your radio feel really loose and sloppy.
But with MORE tension, you begin to lose the "feel" the radio once had.
Like I said, the size is OK (for some, depending on hands) but the weight is the problem.
Perhaps drilling several small holes in it could lighten it up significantly.
I do like the look of the new 1/2" styx. The color I could care less about. The overall thumb print on top is much smaller, It should fit the average thumb a little better. (looks lighter, not sure)

Thanks David. The 3/4" RCStyx weigh precisely 10.0 g while the 1/2" size weigh exactly half that at 5.0 g.

Many prefer the look and feel of the larger sticks, though I myself now have taken to the 1/2" design. I'm a pinch flyer, but both sticks are designed to also suit thumb flyers. Either way, the knurled, serrated CNC aluminum sticks provide for a lot more grip than the stock plastic ones for us pinch flyers.

First of all let me say I have no intentions of selling these.
I plan on 3d printing a set to try out.
I don't know when I will get them done, maybe tonight or next weekend but it will be a 1 hour build for 2.
Here is what I have created:

Here is what I have created:Nice work there! You pretty much have the 3/4" RCStyx pegged. I think you'll like the size, look, and feel. The only difference I see is that the top is concave, but does not center to a point, more like a dish. That and the knurling will be hard to reproduce - how do you intend to "3D print" these?

I did not really plan on having the side knurled since I fly with the thumbs.
As far as the 3d printing goes I will be using my Dimension 3d printer (www.printo3d.com) as seen in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKDVVb2blo0
I'm not sure as though the contour of the "socket" matters all that much, but it will be easy enough to modify them.
I can add some "knubs" where the knurls are, but like a said I fly thumbs.
Since the threads are fine I will hand tap them if I can find a tap.
My printer can print threads though as seen in this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NghIH0JT3gQ
The printer is warming up now so I should have them printed by 2:15am or so.

Hi Brad, Thats bloody awesome mate :)
My 2 bobs worth, its likely they will self tap the thread anyway
write2dgray David--- I see Readyheli are selling your product, thats were I'm getting mine from, I purchase a little from them time to time, I went with the1/2" Blue one's
BTW-David--check out Brads Vids- its truely amazing what he can do with that 3D printer

I just tried them out and they are SWEET!
I drilled them them out from the .06" printed diameter to .09"
Then I found an american tap similar in diameter to the metric threads and screwed em on!
No more hurt "pricked" thumbs when I fly the sim if I like them in the long run.
If I decide to keep them I will print up a set for my Futaba or order a real pair. ;)
1 hour to CAD them
1 hour to print them + 40 minutes machine warmup period
1 to chat about them
and many hours to use them!
All for less than $5 on a $20,000 machine  Time to go back to work LOL

looks good brad, and probably feels good too :) Hey if you still into your turbine stuff, once i unpack and find that helicopter cd for you. i also got a book there on rc turbines, it has all the dimensions and sizes for building your own one so i do some copying of the page for you. you could do up a dummy one on your 3d machine and seeing as you have cnc machines at your work you could then turn into a metal one, or even use your machine to do moulds that you can cast in metal from there a winter project for you :D

I do like them! They are not sharp and painful! :D
I removed the "lock" nut that keeps the stock gimbal from coming loose and was able to lower them.
They were much to high at first and I have small hands so it was much better when made them lower.
Rappy I am sending you a pm.

Rappy I am sending you a pm.Awesome work Brad - that's a pretty slick machine you got there! Twenty grand you say, well, I don't know anyone that will get me that for Christmas, but it's going on my wish list any way.
The cup shaped top fits the thumb like a ball-and-socket and beats the hell out of a spikey shaft - especially with winter upon us, a time when many of us have to resort to gloved flying. RCStyx are definitely far superior when you need to re-center on your sticks after adjusting a trim or something, with the stock sticks it can be hard to find center on them with gloves on.

I picked up the 3/4" RC Styx from Ready Heli a few weeks ago, but couldn't use them very well :(.
I'm a thumbs only flier ( years of video game experience :p ). My thumbs kept slipping around on them, and I felt like I had to constantly 'release and reset' my thumbs. It was quite scary for me to have to release a stick during flight to get a better grip...
I get sweaty hands during flying, so that probably has something to do with it :o.
I like them, and it's a well made product, don't get me wrong. For now, though, I'm back to using the original spiked tops until I can find a way to fix the slippage issue I have.
Does anyone have ideas on how to reduce the 'slippery-ness' on the tops of these sticks?
Would the 1/2" ones be any less slippery?
Would it be possible to 'knurl' the inside of the indentation on the tops as well, instead of the smooth finish? That way it isn't spikey, but still holds better?

JK,
I wouldnt have described them as slippery, but I agree, they are pretty smooth.
because the tops are so recessed, I never had a problem with my thumbs slipping off the tops.
Here is what I might do with mine (remember when I said that my only complaint was, that they are heavy):
----I was thinking about attacking it with a very small drill bit.
This will remove much of the material, lightening it up overall.
You could attack the smooth top of the knob, that should make it textured some.
Something else you migt consider, go to a music (guitar) store, look for something called "GORILLA SNOT" Its basically a dry, sticky compound, that some guitar players use to help hold on to their guitar pics.

If you find the 3/4" are too slippery for you, then the 1/2" probably will not be an improvement. I will look at prototyping some with a knurled finish inside and let you know how that goes...it's a bit difficult to knurl a concave surfave! Thanks for the suggestion!

Awesome! Let me know how it works out! :cool:The knurled top design that I was working on did not work out as well as I had hoped, so it's back to the drawing board with that idea.
I recently took some updated pics of the current line of RCStyx to show off the high quality anodizing and CNC work that goes into them. The pictures came out pretty well, but they look even better in person!
