This thread is just to keep track of who's on the forum. It seems quite small to me. Prove me wrong and start counting to 1000. I'll start. Just go in order (1.2.3.) up to 1k.

I flew a heli with a scale head on the G3 sim last night. It would pitch up and roll over and I never felt I had complete control so I tried another heli with a scale head and it did the same thing. Is this how rc heli's with scale heads really fly?
37
Yeah those flybar-less ones are kinda pitchy but from reading the rc heli article normal flybar-less models are pitchy. not to mention they don't fly upside down worth a dang unless you do some tweaking :D

Question of the day.
I have a Raptor 50 and I am a noob
I set up my T curves and P curves like the manual said.
I checked the head speed at near hover and it was a little low so I lowered the pitch and increased the throttle using the trim on the radio. This only changes the middle T curve point and P curve point. Do I need to adjust the second and fourth?

I guess no question is reaaly stupid if you don't know, but to help with your frustrations:
Not everyone is mechanically inclined
Some people have noooooo experience what so ever
And imagine my position when you have to answer questions like that to people who work on reall vehicles.
Just remember what I try to (repeat in head repetitively in really bad situations ie. do i have to put oil in the transmission too), everyone has a beggining and an end, but age certaintly does not equate.

107 questions i have about this hobby
here is one..
after i have the basics of rc heli flight sown pretty solid, which would be a better choice starting with and align t-rex 450xl of a raptor 50 titanium? thoses are the two helis i think that i will purchse after mastering of my cp, and just wondering what you all think about them
thanks :)
DavidAL
07-30-2006, 04:00 PM
108
Im new and learning myself but have looked at both of those choices, very good ones I think. Your answer probably lies more in wether or not you want to continue with electrics or move on to nitro and what nitro brings to the hobby for your next heli.
Aeronot
07-30-2006, 07:29 PM
109
what would you choose? i like both, but nitro seems to require a little more money in the begenning purchses, so i need to see if i can afford all the costs.
as for eletric, less expensive, but stuff cant really be moved to others helis.
i can never decide which is better
DavidAL
07-30-2006, 09:11 PM
110 reasons why
I already debated this one and would take the T-Rex first.
For my own reasons
1. The transmitter and receiver would carry over
2. I like flying around my house
3. Not ready to deal with the packing up and travel time to the flight field (on the other end of town)
4. Not ready to deal with cleanup and more maintenance
5. Would rather keep learning more conviniently around house
6. Seems for me I would use electrics more often then, so untill I have what I want and will use more often then I will keep looking at electrics
7. Smaller helicopters take up less space in my house
...........

I would also buy a Thunder Power 10 cell balancer and rip max power supply from Draganfly if I get the money

117
I went with a triton as I don't think I will outgrow it anytime soon, I can however, see me needing a bit more capacity if I ever go to a trex 600 or other large electric. I do think the larger electric are a bit spendier for the batteries as opposed to fuel, but then again someone mentioned you can get more flights out of a $200 battery as compared to $200 of nitro fuel, not to mention you don't have to tune the carb on a brushless motor... plug and cras..err..play baby ;)

about the trition: what are its capabilities and how much did it cost?
is it useful for a begennier or, something for more advanced pilots. i dont really see my self flying anything larger than a t rex 450xl if i decide to go eletric, i dont want to spend too much on a charger.
thanks

If you do not think you will get into electrics beyond a certain # of cells in a battery, then by all means save the money and get a much smaller cheaper charger. My personal coice is for the fact that I really like the T-Rex 600, Swift, and Kyosho (and very pricey). I am pretty sure I will get one of them in time after a T-Rex 450SE and maybe a couple of other little ones beforehand. I choose the expensive Charger and Cell Balancer for saving in the long run. Look into something like the Duratrax Ice for all needs on a smaller scale. There is a Triton Jr. now you can look at. There are also some other even cheaper alternatives if for example you know you will not outgrow a 3-cell charger (E-flite makes a three cell lipo charger that is not very expensive). Best bet is do a lot of research and thinking. I have found that batteries, chargers, and motors to be the most intensive for reseaching and finding the right thing. Figuring out what heli's and transmitter I wanted was the easy part.
Take your time and enjoy looking at a lot of neat products online. Definately get a lot of opinions from a lot of people. :)

Aeronot, hey I think you will be pleasantly surprised. So far every time I have used the G3 sim I have done increasingly better with my Blade CP. The only reason for my recent set back is because I switched to my new transmitter and have to get it set up to hover my Blade at a nice stable hover.

149 questions I asked the hobby store guys today... ;)
Sometimes I think they are gonna get annoyed with me and kick me out...
CX would be a good starting place, but it is debateable to a CP in my mind. I figure the CX a little to easy after awhile for someone older. I think I would of gotten bored after awhile with the CX and wanting to learn to fly more. I would think of going CX for my kids first though, make life easier on them.
Aeronot

well, agree with DavidAl. i think a cx is a good starting point, but has little use later on in my mind. starting on a cp is cool if you have basic skills down pretty well.

153 things I can't think of tonight
I say electric fleet first then nitro later. That way you can always fly around the house or somewhere convenient.
Going Nitro later means you never have to wait around to fly one of your helis and you only have to fly the nitro and deal with all it brings when you feel like it without sacrificing having something to fly when you would just rather charge and fly.

154 reasons i love the realflight g3 expansion pack 1 :D
yes, you have bery good points. it also seems to me that there is less "stuff" to worry about with eletric helis.
my favorite eletric heli right now is the MA ion-x. sweet peice of heli that is!
DavidAL

155
electric has its own downsides and upsides. I guess that is why you kind of have to let people decide for themselves. If you are an out and about kind of personality then nitro probably suits you better. I am more of the want to hang around the house or near by kind of person. Electric makes that easier for me. When I get into a nitro I will not go and fly it nearly as much. If I get a turbine (dream away) I will be inticed a little more but still pressed to get me that far away from my house.

well both nitro and eletric have ups and downs, i guess thats what makes ut hard to chhoese between th two. i think i am leaning toward eletric due to less hassle to fly.
yeah, it would be sweet to have a turbine, but the are't the cheapest chopper in the sky :D .

Mmmm wind, stationary forward flight! :D ...or sideways or... It's always windy here on the Oregon coast, if I want to fly in calm air I have to fly indoors, and my flying space is... ahem.. small, hovering my t-rex in a 10x8 area is interesting :D
I guess learning to fly a small helicopter in gusty wind is a good way to learn to compensate... no real crashes yet though, did have it tip over when It landed in sand and got stuck though, gave my little rex it's first boom strike, no marks on the blades though only a dented boom...
