just letting you guys know I'm still with my raptor...but still in the building process. I finally got my radio last week. Got the optic 6 at my lhs, and installed all the electronics on. I'm in the stages of setting up the radio.
I've got a few questions so far:
do I need a header tank for my maiden flight, or can I add it later?
what starter should I get?
any major pitfalls that I should be aware of when setting up the electronics?

thanks for any info.

Any regular hobby starter should work. Hangar 9 makes the one that I use. You'll need to purchase the hex adapter separately. Most hex starters should be standar size and should fit almost any normal hobby starter you get.
You don't NEED the header tank to run it, you probably don't need it until you get into inverted stuff, but that's entirely up to your discression. Some guys don't use them at all, I for one do not agree with that. Heli engines are very finicky when it comes to fuel delivery and I'd sure hate to risk a crash for a $10-15 header tank. I am pretty cautious about things like that. I'm sure there are other opinions out there.
Best of luck with your build. Post some pics when she's done!

I agree with tdswan you don`t need it, but it`s good to have cause the engine vibrates and sometimes you get bubbling inside the tank making the gas delivery to carb harder, this affects your engines overall performance and in turn your rotor head speed which you want to keep constant. With a header tank you won`t have bubbling entering the carb, you`ll have a steady flow of gas with better performance to your engine. :)
Concearning your radio setup it`s always good to have somebody with expierience help you out, look for someone at your field who flies helis you can`t go wrong.
