I want to get my hands on a sim. I'm looking at the Reflex XTR. What I'm concerned about is my knowledge of computers is extremely limited and the requirements is a foreign language to me. I bought a laptop 6 months ago, a Dell inspiron 1505 with XP not Vista. Could anyone have a guess on whether or not I'd be ok??

Hi,

have a look here

http://reckerclub.tripod.com/id69.html

about 1/2 way down the page he discusses requirements - you should have some documentation that will tell you what hardware is in your laptop and you can go from there - I don't think that Vista is any issue - it seems to cause more grief than not from what I've been reading......

( I think that video ram will be your biggest concern - a lot of laptops use "shared" ram - which is what it says " shared" with the system - "dedicated" is the preference )

good luck :)

so if my computer doesnt have a lot of RAM or its shared, I might not be able to run it?

I have the Reflex-XTR......its a great SIM. If you bought a laptop six months ago....you should hve no problem. I have XP running on that as well. I believe the requirement is for 128MB of RAM......i can't remember and I do not have the box. Take a look at the box to see the system requirement.

Hope you go with the Rflex-XTR....the graphics is great.

Your comp should be just fine to run the Reflex program. You're gonna love the Reflex sim. I have my XTR through my home comp. It looks like you're watching a live heli vid and feels as natural as my real helis. As with every sim, flying for real and simming it are two different ballgames, especially in the beginning stages. More so on the visualization part of things, oh and crashing. The sim is great for practicing the smackdown. LoL

Have fun, you'll enjoy, and it will help you become a better pilot.

You may be able to go over to Reflexs website and download a demo of the sim to see if it will run.

I sent you a PM with some info today. Hope it helps you out.

I just ran some more tests on my slower computer and if you select the Reflex computer generated background I am getting 35-40 on my video card, where the actual backgrounds I was only getting 15. Again just some more info for you.

Also has anyone seen any new models or backgrounds avail. for Reflex. I know there is some software to convert photos in to models, but I did not see anything for new backgrounds.

You're talking fps?

I'm getting 60fps. Then again, I gave my wife the exact requirements for the XTR and we bought a brand new comp with all the requirements and then some.
It really is a remarkable picture/video look alike on a 20 inch flat screen. Not only looks, but it flies like my real heli. :)
Here's a screenshot of my XTR

Yes that was about the FPS.

I was telling him the specs. I was getting on my systems. I myself think it is easier to fly my Hawk, than it is on the Reflex simulator, not that that is a bad thing :)

I don't think it's anything you'd be interested in cuzz ...

I have a Reflex XTR simulator I'm looking to unload. I offered it to austintyler, but he never responded to my PM. So, it's going up on eBay soon.

If anyone here is interested - please PM me. I'll offer it up here first. I'll let it go for $100.00 + shipping. It has the square Futaba and a JR cable.

Just wanted to let anyone know that reads this thread in the future. With my computer I can only run this Sim with the computer generated background. With the picture backgrounds it runs way too rough.

I also would like to add that it does not support Windows XP Pro 64Bit. Works find under the 32Bit version. It has driver issues, but program seems OK.

How did this happen??????? Suddenly after a few weeks running my Sim, the FPS has gotten alot better. Now I can run the photo backgrounds!!! I havent chnged anything on my computer, I dont even know how to. What are things that you can do to inprove the run speed on a computer(laptop)????

Mr.HillBilly

I hate to say it but mine bounces around on my slower computer. One day it runs great the next time it slows back down. Use it why you got it. :D I have not seen it do it on my good computer but it has never run under 60 FPS.

As far as keeping it up there, I would kill all of the background tasks, and if you have DSL or a Cable Modem, shut off your ECard or unplug the RJ45 wire.

Also if you have not done it yet make sure you get the 5.03 update it helps some, plus more models.

I do not think that the 5.04 runs on the USB doggle since they are not releasing it for a update.

Glad to hear it pick up for you. :)

Its the darndest thing I can seem to connect with the people at Reflex. I have tried a few times to register with them on their website so I can download the upgrade, but I never get a response in my email to activate my account. lame

I never had a problem with registering just downloading. I had to try it 4 or 5 times B4 it made it.

What version are you running now?
