Hey guys just a question on price, is it a very big difference in cost if you buy an electric heli that uses 500mm blades compared to one that uses 600mm blades i don't mean the kit itself,i mean like all the gear that goes with it to get the heli in the air!
Like batteries ESC Motor etc...
I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a price comparison on the gear you need to get a 500 electric in the air compared to a 600 electric using good quality gear!
Also guys what are your thoughts on choice between an electric heli that uses 500mm blades and one that uses 600mm blades!
Any info would be great thanks!

Not sure about 500's but 600's it comes down to a battery issue, the batteries are big, cost a lot more and the flight duration is only about 6 mins from what I read, these are some of the reasons why I purchased a 50size nitro heli :)
BTW- This is only my opinion there will be others :)

The only difference in price will be in the batteries. A 500 size model will normally use 5S-6S and a 600 size model will use 8S-10S.
Without a doubt, the leader in electric helis is Mikado. The Logos are very well engineered and the power to weight beats any other model in it's class.
The one thing to remember with electrics is the cost is determined by the batteries. The cost to build a Trex 450 and a Trex 600 are pretty close but the battery prices are much different.

Thanx guys for your replies.
Hey Motions i am glad you metioned the Mikado helis because i am very interested in the new Logo 500 and logo 600 but if i buy one i am not sure to go with the 500 or 600 and i am not sure to go for the 3D or the DX model.

yeah, i had to copy and paste.
like the others said dude, the price comes down to batteries. the price of the battery is 200$ for the 600.
thats also why i went with a nitro powered 30. in the long run it will be cheaper then an electric and i'll get longer flight times.

If your still learning, I don't recommend getting any large electric unless you have a large allowance. The flight times (5-10 minutes) per battery just aren't good for learning. I have about $1500 just in batteries and get five 7 minute flights.

Why are 5s 6s 10s Lithium Polymer Batteries so freakin expensive what is with that, will they come down in price?
When i see these batteries for 300 + dollars i just don't see the value and don't understand why they are so expensive, with batteries being this expensive it kinda prices the average joe out of the 50 size electric heli market! :(

Whats crazy to me is that I see these massive packs being carried around by way to many guys. Its nuts I have one buddy that has three of those packs thats 900.00+ dollars. Glow fuel looks better and better each day. Not to mention the flight times. I double almost triple his times with my glow bird. SACKMAN still brings his glow bird with him to fly so he can get more flight time. NO big electrics for me yet. Maybe a GAS bird but NO big electrics. Not yet

I really want around a 50 size heli for my first heli and i had my mind set on electric i am just more an electric guy. I have owned electric touring cars & one nitro buggy and for me electric seems cleaner and more user friendly.
But now i see the price of batteries for 50 size electric heli's i am thinking of maybe going for a nitro heli but i really would rather electric, damn what am i going to do lol.

If you do the math for long term, nitros and electrics are about the same cost. With nitros you buy your fuel as you need it and electrics you buy all your fuel up front. However, the nitro wins on flight times which is a huge plus when your learning. You can't beat the gas-n-go stick time.
If you really want electric, you might consider a smaller model which uses cheaper batteries. A Trex450 or HDX500 will be much more economical to fly.

OK, Big night last night for heli flying. I got the chance to see the RCHELIMAG.COM Raptor E550 electric in person and see it fly. This thing was real nice running on the cheaper batteries I witnessed two 8 minute plus flights. After seeing this bird fly on the cheaper batteries I may re consider the purchase of a large E bird. I was very impreseed with its flight times and its abilities. If you need more info about the bird and its setup you can check yor back issue for the review. You cna trust I will be digging it out to reread the review myself. Qutie power and great looks. E550

I dug out my RC Heli mag and checked the review. They were running the usual Thunder Power 6s 5000 batteries in the review ($300 per). Can you tell me what cheaper batteries were used in the flight demo you saw?
BTW - I have an E-Raptor and while it flies okay on 6s, it's a much better ship on 8 cells. As the magazine noted in its review, this machine is heavier than the T-Rex 600 and really needs more juice to go. I get more bang for my buck with two 4s 3700 packs ($160 each) wired in series. These are also the same batteries I fly in my Lepton.
That is one way to make electrics more economical - check things over and see if you can use the same batteries in more than one machine.
