Ok, I’ve got a brand new T-rex 450XL CDE in its box, G401 gyro, Align BL430L brushless, and an Align 35A ESC with gov. I need to make a decision on the radio equipment. It will be an Airtronics RD8000 or a Futaba 7CHF. My question is what servos should be used with each. I’ve searched the posts but didn’t find the information I’m looking for. Maybe I’m just not searching properly. I plan to only do sport flying. Radical 3D doesn’t interest me. What servos with the Futaba? What servos with the RD8000? Are the ones that are commonly included with a radio package OK (Futaba – s3151, RD8000 – 94322Z)?

Servos are not specific to any radio brand. What radio you have doesn't matter to the servos. The common one across the board people are going with seems to be the Hitec HS 56, I personally have HS50 and HS55's on mine. The faster of the two, the HS50 on the tail. It's really your preference.

I was just concerned about the size and weight of the servos and if they produced enough force to do the job.

Ahhh....I guess I read it wrong. :o
I don't really know the torque requirements, I just used what everyone else was at the time when I built mine.

My personal preference is hitecs HS 65`s they are somewhat new and priced right.
they have bearings and center perfectly, I haven`t crashed one yet so I don`t know
how well they hold up but I`m sure no worse than the 56`s as for the tail I would go
with the the best you can afford. (digital) works for me.

I went with a Futaba 7CHF and s3110 servos for cyclic and a s9254 for the tail.

the 9254 will technically work...but it is huge for the T-rex. its only neccisary for extreme backwards flight (mine does stellar with a 9650 or an airtronics 94761) as for the cyclic, the hitec hs 56 and 65 are both good, (I am running hs 65 mg with great results). in the futaba lineup, the 3103 is going to be easy to mount, the 3110 has great performance, and the 3107 and 3108 are both good too. any of the futaba servos make a super choice for a low cost alternative to the digitals on the tail.

I am running a Shogun V2. I too have a GY401. Initially I purchased a digital servo for the tail and ran HB56's on my other three spots. And like it was pointed out here, the digital servos are HUGE! All my mounts fit the HB56's and even the tail mount was for a smaller servo. I also agree that unless you have limitless money, the digitals are sorta over the top. Of course the 401 is made to work with a digital tail servo but there is a dip setting for non-digital servos. I went with the 56's because of the karbonite gears that are supposed to have a long, long service life. I said, what the hell. Since I went with the 56's I also put on an electron 6 receiver and I am using an optic 6 radio. Everything but the gyro is hitec.

And for the sake of taking up your time I will tell you that most of my stuff is CNC aluminum. Some of the head group remains-uh, plastic including the swash. I also put on a pretty cheap but great CF frame that I simply love. Lots of room for my justgofly 4400KV DH400 and phoenix 35 with BEC. My next stop will be a TR but now I am simply trying to xfer my plane knowledge to helos. Good luck.

PS: As for radios, I researched and researched and found that the hitec Optic 6 met my helo needs while keeping me in the money ball park. I didn't purchase a specta option for it though. Anyway, just my two cents.
