not sure about this, could be my setup or a real difference between sim and real flight.
I was practicing..."something" at the weekend, where I would sit in a hover tail in, and then push left or right on the right stick. this would tilt the heli over and move it left or right. I'd hold the tail straight and not go for or aft, just drifting left and right maybe 2 or 3 feet off the deck.
Now, with the HDX, it would not change altitude as I transitioned left/right or even while traversing, however if I try it with G3.5 the bird sinks as you drift.
Is my "real" setup wrong, or is the sim wrong?

I guess you've all gone to sleep!

I can't really say either setup is "wrong" but the sim is more accurate. Anytime you transition from a hover (tilt the rotor disc), you will loose vertical lift. You will also see this when transitioning into a hover from forward flight as the model will tend to gain altitude.
If your transitions are very slight and just drifting, you will probably not see this much. The more cyclic you give, the more you will notice the altitude variation. You can test this by hovering 50 or so feet and give enough cyclic to tilt the rotor disc about 30° and watch it drop like a rock.

it should drop for a moment. then pick up again. (without changing collective)
G3 drops because that is the first effect. the second effect may depend on Paddle mixing.
the mixing will remove the flap back. and can cause the heli to dive.
There will soon be a heli on G3 that I have been working on (Physics side) that will not have this effect. IE it will want to nose up a little (Just a little).
Translational lift (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Translational_lift) (Transitioning from hover to forward flight) is a bonus lift effect that will cause the heli to rise should you attitude be not to sever (actually causes the heli to have more thrust) . (All without changing collective)

Drop the nose and hammer in some collective and off it goes. :D
