View Full Version : $200 radios?
Greetings and salutaions,
I have gotten my Rex, I have a collection of hs 65hb servos in it, and have a gyro on order. But I am a bit overwhelmed by radio choices.
I was originally going to go for an Optic 6 as I rather like the feature set it has but reported issues have worried me, the dx6 was another option, DSM is sure nice.
What are your reccomendations for a radio that retails around $200?

Hello. I may go against some people comfort issues but I have had extremely good luck with ebay. I am a JR fan so my radios are the XP 8103 and the XP 6102. Both are fantastic radios and both I got for less than $150. You can get either one with digital trims for a bit more usually however, my 6102 has them and I only spent $110. I watch auctions closely and keep my patience. Both of these radios will do what you want and then some. Hope it helps.

the JR 6102 is a killer radio for the money, it offers great visual aides and is very easy to set up. the optic 6 does mostly all of the same stuff, but it does not offer a visual aid for the pitch and throttle curve, for instance. the DX6 is a pretty cool radio, and will get the job done, but it only offers a 3 point pitch and throttle curve, not horrible, but you want a five point if you can get it. If you can afford it, you may look into spending a little more, the JR 9303, futaba 9c, and others will offer more options, but are actually much easier to set up because they have more visual aides, and things are spelled out instead of abbrieviated.

Another option is the new JR 7202, which will be out in a few weeks. Will come with a synthesized module and receiver for a price in the $260 range. & channels as well. I for one would choose the JR 9303, it costs a little more, but will do EVERYTHING you will need for that Trex and beyond.
I thank you for your reccomendations, I will price them up when I get to work tomorrow or wednesday,
Chris.
Well after some further research I decided to get the optic 6 with a single channel module, of all the problems I've read it appears the issues centered around mainly a faulty spectra module. I might miss the visual ques but using a bit of graph paper to set up curves should be fine.. after all I'd rather be looking at the bird then the box ;)
I was able to get the set brand new for cost due to working in a hobby shop, and with new it comes with a warrenty if anything goes wrong.
Don't get me wrong, I like ebay, but some days it feels like russian roulette.
I got the set for about $170 with the elecron and 2 hs 55's so I should be able to get my moneys worth out of it. With a T-Rex and a couple stripped walkera birds I should be set for a while... Now I need good batteries and a charger
I think I'm going to take my worked over 22a for my non-sim maiden flight, it has vnr3d head landing gear and plasti-blades, so it should be good for crashing :)
talk to you later after the pieces settle.
Chris
