A question to the Heli-pilots around here...
I am running a Kyosho Nexus 46 with a OS 46FX. I was thinking of changing it out for an OS 50SXH. According to the specs there is about .2BHP and 2000RPM difference. In your opinion will this give me a significant change in performance? Is there something that I could change that might be more benificial than the motor?
I am transissioning from beginner pilot to intermidiate and would like some better response from my Nexus. I am also concerned with power on fast manuvering.

The O.S. 50 will probably give you more power, but if you're looking for more response, try some lighter paddles first. I think you'll be pleased with a set of whites if you're using the stock blacks right now.
Good luck,

"Response" might not be the correct word I was looking for. I want to be able to "power" thru some harder turns. The other day I was in full forward flight and tried to do a pretty hard turn and lost a lot of RPM on the motor and rotor. It was enough that I started to loose altitude. I don't know if it is because my motor is being just the right size or if Helicopters can't do what I was trying to do. I have seen some pretty amazing things and did not think I was over working my bird.

put the 50 in you will have more than enough power.
the paddles will help also
if you wish to keep the 46 you might go to 550 blades so your swinging less mass also right now you probably have 580's or 600's on there which might be too much for your engine...but not for a 50

Brandon, it definately doesn't sound like an engine problem, it sounds like you were stalling the blades. If your near full throttle then yank 'n bank, you will most likely stall the blades. Blade stall will happen at about 14 deg. At full throttle you usually have 10 deg and add in another 7-8 deg of cyclic pitch and you have about 18 deg of total pitch. Yes, it will drop like a rock.
I would say burn some more fual on the engine you have and gain more experience then get the OS50. A more powerful engine shouldn't make up for inexperience.

one thing that I figured out at some point is this; you can't give the heli full collective AND cyclic at the same time, or you will stall the blades. This helps tremendously as you start to fly aerobatics, but even for general forward flight, it helps to remember this tip. After some practice, it makes a huge difference. If you hear the blades slowing, back off and finesse your way through the maneuver. Its all about collective management.
