I was going over the Heli to prepare it for another weekend of flying (I have a 4 day weekend coming up) and I noticed that the head only turned one way freely and the other had some resistance. Felt like a clutch issue.

I took the machine apart and was surprised to see this (see pic below).

What would cause this besides a bad clutch? Thankfully it didn't affect flight and I checked it over before its next flight.

Anyhow I will order another one in a few minutes to have it fixed by the weekend.

ohhhh  yikes, good save! this is why you do preflight inspection folks. good job on catching that before it could cause a problem in flight :D

Thanks.

Yes, I always do a FULL Preflight on the Bench at home, then I do another the day I arrive at the field. As you can see you never know what you will find. When I was last out with it, I had no idea there was a problem while in flight. I did briefly notice as I packed it away that it seemed odd but didn't check it as I haven't had plans to fly.

A pre-flight is absolutely necessary each time you go out.

Hmmm I wonder why it broke virtually across the strongest section of the clutch?? it must have been defective from new,I've seen other photos of them braking across the narrow circle, but not like that one, it must have had a hair line crack in it from new!!
Good find though, could have been very ugly :(
