I know this type of thread is beat to death, but although it is asked over and over, there are never any complete, well rounded answers. As you probably have guessed I am just getting into the R/C Heli world. I have frown fixed wing for to long and I wish to transfer over to a more adrenaline pumping R/C hobby. As a beginner normally would, I am looking for the cheapest, highest quality, most user friendly heli to train on. Since I am new to everything involving helis I would like the whole kit and kaboodle. What kit do i go with, radio, gyro, engine, ect. I am looking for the entire package. I know one of you heli pros can help me out.

Thanks guys
(This forum is doing terrific!!)

This answer has also been beat to death but it's always true. The cheapest, highest quality, most user friendly heli to train on is the one in the sim. It can't be expressed enough. It saves you a lot of money and frustration.

As for the actual model, you will get so many opinions that you will be more confused than before you asked the question. What exactly are you looking for in a heli? Fly inside/outside, nitro/electric, large/small? This helps narrow some suggestions.

I am just looking for a rugged outdoor gas heli that will be easily upgradable as my skills progress. Size isn't important but money is. Ease of maintenance would be a plus but isn't to much of an issue. Thanks for the help.

That would most definately fall into the Raptor 50 catagory. It is a very good model for the beginner and once your skills progress, it is capable of hardcore 3D. Maintainence is very easy on the Raptor and parts are widely available.
