Hey all. I've got one of those flat bathroom scales. I got it from Wal-Mart. Much more forgiving than that one at the doctor's office. That thing's a liar! :p
haa haa haa .... yea I thought my digital scale was broke. Everytime I stood on it just said EEE.....

I called customer service and they informed me that the scale has a weight limit and E is for ERROR...

Just onboard here definately as a beginner (my post in the micro-electrice is proff of that). Relishing all the information presented and thought I had obtained all the bits-n-pecies I needed to progess through this addictting hobby into to larger helis.
But now I'm a bit dismayed! pitch guages, battery balancers, tachometers, etc. I can all understand; but the need for a scale is losing me. Is this to weigh the heli prior to flight to ensure correct CG, payloads, or what?
Although the senior members here have insinuated that a Wal-Mart scale might be usable I'll most likely obtain mine at a hobby store. What questoins should I ask the hobby-store pro when shopping for one?
Now that all that levity is aside...it's great to see a board where folks have a sense of humor!
By the way; the spouse does not allow scales in our home. Go figure!

Hey guys. New to the forum but, I have always wanted to Fly r/c helicopters. Since I was 8 the first time my dad took me to the hobby shop and I saw a Concept 30 hanging from the ceiling. Well at 28, I have a good job and some disposable income I deceided to trade the r/c cars for something I've always wanted. I bought this off Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/4CH-RTF-RC-EP-SpyHawk-Helicopter-Lipo-Battery-Sim_W0QQitemZ200084247215QQcategoryZ2563QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
It is a no name about the size of a Blade CP Pro, but comes with a flight sim. And if I crash it,oh well. But after I learn to fly. What should I upgrade to? Or will that depend upon my flying skill at the time? Oh yea gas is out of the guestion. I live in an area that has strict noise codes. I have read throught the forums and obtained a lot of useful info. Thanks in advance, Jesse. :D

Hey hitman, What you bought i think is pretty much the same as the, Walkera Dragonfly. Trust me compared to a larger model they are a real bitch to fly, so don't be put off rc heli if you don't master it as it does get easyer.
If noise is an issue and you want something that has alot of spare parts and upgrade parts the T-Rex seems to be the way to go, from what i have seen most people enjoy them and they are big enough to use normal size rc gear.

Nice, Troy! You had me scratching my head for a few with this one and it is one of my better days.
Anyway, what engine and servos are you going to use???

A Good Walmart Scale is a great thing to have around .. These Scale Ships gain weight Fast!! Need to trim them down a bit before flight :)
Hope I can be useful to anyone that is thinking of getting into scale ..

I think my scales are defective due to the fact the weights seems to increase each time i stand on them. getting sick of having to zero them at - 10 kg

Same here! I just had another physical the other day and I tried to tell them that the scale there is nothing but a liar, but they don't seem to believe me.
Dr. Tim, it's good to see a legend in the scale community (real scale HELI ;) ) to team up with the staff at RC Heli Mag. You're a nice addition to the magazine! Welcome! I haven't had the pleasure of seeing your work in person, but I will someday. :D

Hey Doc,
How much different is it to fly with a body on it? I have a Raptor Titan and someday want to get the MD-530 body that is supposed to fit on it. I am not really into the 3D thing.
Thanks,
Harold.

Good Morning Herold, Weight is the issue ,, First off a heavy helicopter requires a little thinking ahead to control properly. What I mean by this is the helicopter will not react as fast without large control inputs. but doing this will also put heavy loads upon the airframe so you have to plan what flight path your going to take and start adding pitch and such a few seconds before you actually at that point .. think ahead of the helicopter ... I start my landing approach 3 to 5 seconds before I actually land.

Thanks Doc! I am no where near that stage yet. I take about 10 seconds before I know what to do next, now (or whatever).
If you ever come to Colorado to fly PLEASE LET ME KNOW I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THAT!!!!
Harold.
