yikes!! headspeed too high?? didn't glue root support onto wood blades?? didn't use thread lock on the spindle, or the spindle otherwise got loose?? cracked blade grip from a previous crash?? there is really no way to know after its all said and done, thats why we always try to emphasize preventative maintenance  .

I didn't see the vid as dial-up is really slow downloading vids. I'm guessing the blades came off in flite.
Preventative maintenance is the best thing you can do for you and your heli. I go over my nitro helis atleast a couple of hours after every flying session and I still have time to post, take care of my family, work, etc. etc.

It never left the ground! You can hear the pilot trying to lift-off but is unable to get the bird off the ground.....then BOOM! EXPLOSION!!!

Cuzz Hello
That was the vid that you and vapo- were talking about a couple months ago, the guy had no positive pitch and was revving the hell out of it and it exploded!!
consensus was step up job for the vid, I believe :)

yeah, it is sitting there spinning pretty fast (judging from the sound) and it never even gets light, it just blows up like blax1 said...wham, Kablewwwwy...no more heli!!!

LMAO
You are right Aaron in your first post. There could be many different factors/reasons how that happened.
I've never witnessed anything of that nature, and I don't want to. That goes to say, at my last RC meeting, we are cracking down and enforcing the ama rules. A member of my rc club had a fly-away a few months back. The plane had no identifying marks and it was found a few weeks after the incident about 5 miles away from the flying site. It landed in a tree, lucky it wasn't something tragic. Don't know exactly how or why but it sounds like a low TX/RX battery issue to me. Lost signal and bye-bye love.

Speakin' of that....I just had a similar incident with my Raptor. I had it outside to idle a tank through the new hyper. I spooled it up a bit to put a small load on it and vary the RPMs a bit. I'd estimate that the RPM's were still under 800, just so that I wouldn't get the temptation to lift off ;) and all of a sudden SNAP!!!! It started shaking around and after it spooled down, I identified the source......The tail blade grip came off because the set screw that holds the bearing on the hub had sheared! Thank God it didn't happen in flight! Luckily, no damage aside from the blade grip and hub. Parts should be here on Monday from HeliProz.....INCLUDING the tail hub upgrade that I had previously not seen the need for :o

should go back to flying planks, bits can fall off all day, and you still have a chance of landing :D

Looking at the exhaust blowing UP through the rotor blades instead of down and away is a pretty good visual on what might be a cause. It supports the theory of no positive pitch and overspeeding. The only thing missing was a "finger acknowledgment/comment" when all we could see was his hand. LOL

good point about the exhaust, that brings up another point. if he was running negative pitch at speed on the ground with soft dampeners....he could have had a boom strike. just one more possible cause.....

I am sure glad I bought and am using the training gear while I am learning!! At least you would know if you were "drilling a well" with negative pitch.
Take care,
Harold.

I had to see. What a sight, almost looks like it was a bomb.
To bad you see the guys hand after it explodes. So many things are in line for this happening, I feel its improper set-up to begin with, then trying to fly down instead of up.
lol
