Tether Line

Does anyone really use a tether line when training hovering with a full sized Heli? If you have can you give some specifics? It sounds carzy, but it would be better for the line to stop it than fior a car or person!

I saw a video today:
1 guy with a deep sea rod and real.
He was holding it with a TRex tied to the string, upside down.
Guy #2 was learning to fly inverted.
it was very cool looking until he hit the idle up switch and everything went crazy.. lol...
