To those of you out there who have or do fly the real thing how do you compare. For me i thought R/c helicopters are very much the same in all aspects from having to have a very calm feel for the controls to breaking through ground effect. Here is hoping 3d flying of the real thing never comes, just think how scary it would be hovering upside down within feet of the ground.

Hell yeah SCARY!

A friend of mine and I were recently discussing the same thing. How cool it would be to have a real heli that could do the same things we do with the RC ones. Then, reality took hold and we started to realize how hard it would be to build a blade to scale that would be as stiff as the ones that we use. Also, the centrifugal forces on the rotor head when you'd build one to full-scale would be ENORMOUS!!! Then there's the power-weight ratio. To build something full-scale with that much power would be almost impossible with today's technology!
Maybe some day!.....but for now, we can at least dream about it!
Yes, it would be cool!

you would also need a bloody large sick bag.

ROTFLMAO!
That thought never came to mind actually!
True, the pilot would probably yak in minutes!

That's the problem if I were to fly a real heli. I'd want to loop and roll then end up crashing.

 The G forces would be tremendous as well.

It's easier for me to fly the real birds. I have a much easier time with the perspective in the cockpit.

The hardest part of flying the models is knowing what attitude the heli is in. The controls are a little different, too. In the models, we push the collective to go up; full scale we pull the collective. We also have to be careful not to have interaction between the collective and the tail rotor. In the full scale, the tail rotor is controlled with our feet.

Amen on the 3D stuff. I'll stick with fixed wing for that. :D

yeah it is a shame they don't fit heading hold gyros to the real thing at least then hovering in strong wind would be made a hell of allot easyer. flying a r22 on a hot summers day with a heavy passenger is like running an rc heli with no cooling fan. it is hard to hover and climb you can barely make it out of ground effect and your already at the max manifold pressure
