I have a Raptor 60 with a OS 70 engine, and I am just getting back into helis after 30yrs. so I am basiclly a beginner again. I was just wondering if a governor is a good idea or is it really needed for the beginner that is only going to be doing the very basics for year or so.

In my opinion, a governor is probably not necessary unless you're really doing some stick bending. As long as your throttle curves are set up right, your headspeed should be consistant enough for even moderate sport flying. You can always set up throttle-to-aileron and throttle-to-elevator mixing (if your radio has mixing) if you're seeing considerable bog on hard meneuvers. Since I put the mixing on, I notice a lot less bogging on the stationary flips and rolls.
Welcome back!

Thank you, I'm sure it will be a while before I'm doing any high G meneuvers. I'll be happy just to do the basics for now. And yes I do have mixing so that is an option also.
Once again Thanks!
