Hello all
I would like to see what everyome is doing or improving on thier helis over the winter .
I have done these mods to my raptor 50 V2
9303 radio and reciever
Kasama & Fan combo
Changed to titan gears
Mp2
9656 for collective
Revmax
I will probably have to learn to fly over again , quite sure it will be different than last year .
Am exited about the upcomming year or a lot of rebuilding ( hope not) .

My winter projects are to keep flying. Finish a foamie conversion 100+mph ebmodified glo-powered F-27Stryker jet. It needs the front steering/landing gear.{have it, just to heli-crazy to install it} One final coat of 3 hour epoxy{this will be coat#6} and hook up the throttle assembly. Here's a pic. All the scratches are from sanding it before the finish coat.

hey Cuzz- I sure hope you beefed up the foam with spars or ply sheeting or something around the motor mount area. I have ripped the foam apart on an electric styker with a mega 16/15/3, (still a 100mph setup ;) in flight and that was with extra mods for support. thats a car motor, right? what are you going to do for exhaust?

Aaron, the wings are reinforced with carbon fiber rods. The main fuse has three brass square tubing epoxied in very well. The engine area also has three brass square tubing cross sectioned with the fuse tubes as well as the landing gear holds two of the motor mounts. This fuse is completely sealed with 5 coats of 3 hour epoxy and one to go. It's heavy for a Stryker, about 2.8 lbs. RTF. The motor is a ebmodified .12 It spins a little over 37,000 rpm with a 6x4 prop, so I don't think weight will to much of an issue as long as its balanced properly. The exhaust will be a car exhaust with a few small mods to it.
I thank my friend for donating the motor.

wow, 100mph, thats crazy fast for a rc (i think, except that huge f14 that went like 200 i think).
whats it like flying it?

It's a ton of fun. My favorite is full speed about 3 to 5 feet off the deck then a straight vertical climb to about 400-500 feet.

i'm surprised you can see it at 400-500 feet. how touchy is it at that speed? one little over adjust and..BAM

No more touchy than my helis. :D

no problem, you can fly a plane alot farther than a heli. and it may sound impossibly fast but planes track pretty well at those speeds and more...it really starts getting fun when you triple those speeds! some of the fastest models these days have no motor at all! gliders dynamic soaring (DS) have broken the 300mph barrier! this is some of the most intense and high speed flying in all of RC! DS flying is basically flying the rotor on the backside of the hill. I have a 60 inch all carbon glider called the Bird that can do 230mphl on the "backside" (the same glider will barly go faster than 100mph in a dive on the front side of the hill)

that is a big pic
it just seems like it would be hard to control at that speed, sounds like fun though, now i have to talk the ol' lady into another hobby

It's really not hard to control. It's fun but I still prefer my helis anyday over any fixed wing aircraft.

i would like to get a plane someday, but the helis have such a hold on me. probably part of when i was in the navy on a helicopter carrier with 53's, 46's, ah-1's, and hueys.
on g3 i tried flying the saber turbine model.
UMMMM... a bit big there Aaron. I think someone needs to show you how to use Photoshop. :p

winter for me usually means "work on boring ground vehicles"
this year was an exception though, since i got to assemble a legend in its own right, the tamiya txt-1:

hell of alot of flex for a stock truck. doesnt have any eletronics, driveshafts, or a tranny at this moment. i plan on using a traxxas e-maxx tranny, dual motors, and traxxas t-maxx driveshafts to make the beast roll.

I'm looking for a new 90 as a winter project.
I may only buy 2 heli's in 2007, one of which will for sure be a 90. (maybe the Aurora, I got a chance to hold one in my hands :D)
I have been looking at a lot of 90 kits. pricing different birds and such.
maybe a Fury, maybe a Vibe, maybe a Stratus, MAYBE the Aurora if it comes out before spring.
Those kits are all about the same price.
Some cheaper models, like the EVO 90, or Rap90 might satisfy me. either of those, I can put in the air really cheap. I am well stocked on electronics (which is the pricey part)
So basically, anything goes. I think about the Raptor, as I can get one from a box of parts, to ready to fly in about 2 hours. Yes, I have built quite a few of them.
I want to get away from Raptors though. They fly great and all, I just feel lke it may be holding me back. CCPM is just the new way to go these days. I will still always fly my rappy's. Im just going to keep upgrading them. I want to build an all Carbon Fiber frame conversion or one of them. I havent seen one yet. Mine may be the first. It will take a lot of work, a lot of time, and a lot of money. Heck. It might just end up being a nitro Trex. My stock 50V2 is going to get a kasama head, so that will be a beast. My other is 100% quick UK.
Something I have always wanted to do, was get into a gasser. That may happen next summer, but who knows.

I think the Hirobo Freya Evo 90 is what I am looking at right now pretty seriously.
They don't cost that much, either. I am really tempted to build one of these.
