I've been wrestling with whether or not I should post this because I'm so embarrased about it, but I hope it will keep someone else from suffering the same fate as I did so here goes....

I had another setback with my gasser. After months of tweaking, tearing it down and re-adjusting so may things (because I'm a little obsessive-compulsive sometimes ;) ) and replacing the gyro/servo on it, tweaking the governor and too many other things to mention.....It crashed on Thanksgiving day.

After doing the post-mortem, I found that a ball had come un-screwed from the swashplate. The most embarrasing part is that I had just had it apart on the bench to replace the gyro and I gave it a THOROUGH checkup just before-hand. Before you ask....Yes it was blue-Loctited in. The new link (along with the other 7 of them) is now RED-loctited in and WON'T come out again. I figured I'd post this to hopefully keep everyone vigilant in their pre-flight inspections. A lttle $3 part will cost me just shy of $300 with blades once I save back up for it. I had just made a large order of parts before-hand, so the heli-fund is a bit depleted. For now it sits on the bench tucked in the corner.
Donations are appreciated! LOL :p

Painful sight....and dont be embarresed. Things like this happen to the best of us and with each crash comes experience and a credit card bill!

Hope you get airbourne again soon.

Sorry about that chief. But as broke-again said, it happens. I had the exact same thing happen to my MX400 Pro the week before Thanksgiving. The screw came out of the ball on the swash plate.and jammed against the antirotation bracket. Heli went sideways then straight into the ground. Broke my 2 flight old carbon blades and bent almost every shaft on it.

Think of the "fun" you'll have putting it back together again.

Good Luck

Sorry to here about the crash tswan. I know what you are saying about checking your heli. It's the little things that go wrong more than the big things. I found a loose ball link on my throttle, that could of been a big crash if I did not catch it.

I especially like the calculator sitting next to the wreckage. Puts everything in the right perspective.

LOL!
I even moved that to the side for the picture, I didn't really realize it was in there!
Good one, though! LOL :p

Well, all of the dislocated parts are back in the right place.....Time to do the setup adjustments on it and it should be ready to fly again.

Nice to see it's back together. Now set it up and fly the $H*t out of it. :D

I've got the radio all re-set. It's amazing how a couple of links can throw off the pitch by a few degrees one way or another. I'll probably wait now until spring with the exception of a couple of test flights. I just don't have any motivation to fly it in the cold.

Merry Christmas to you, too Ralph and all the rest of you as well!

It was 50 degrees today. That's AWFULLY mild for Wisconsin in December. Hard to believe it was in the teens a week ago.

You must take advantage of the warmer weather and fly, fly, fly!
